Which recent fighter had the best debut opponent?

Mike Middleton summed up Audley's career. Fury's first opponent was a complete joke, but his next opponents made up for it. Degale's first opponent was durable, but made him look bad.

Therefore who do you think had the best debut opponent?

I think Ali showed balls with his choice of first opponent. A black man in the american south fighting the neighbouring towns chief of police.

That shows his debut opponent, Walter Edwards, as also making his debut and then losing three of his subsequent four fights?! :?

Look past that, mate. I saw everyone struggling to name an actual tough debut so I thought this guy reflected a good start of a career. Stop picking at straws. Just look at the amount of fights it took him to go 12 rounds!

I've been following Shumenov's career with interest, just not really a relevant choice for the actual subject of the thread!

I've already conceded that but, as I've also said, I thought his was a very good example of a brilliant start to a career.:good
