Which recent MW champion would have given GGG the toughest challenge?

Assume for argument's sake, it is the best middleweight version of each choice.

I think JT could possibly of outpointed him before his stamina problem. But I would still favour GGG to stop him. He would eventually cut off the ring and KO him.

GGG would ko all inside 6, so can't vote any. Hagler is the only one who comes in my mind to go to distance, and maybe even outpoint him

Sergio Martinez his lateral movement, accuracy, use of angles, awkwardness and speed would be very problematic for GGG, and yes Sergio's chin would hold up a lot longer than people think it would, Sergio had excellent powers of recovery and most of the times he went down it was from bad balance. That match could go either way, a close UD for both, or a KO for both.

Kelly Pavlik's size could be an issue, his punching power could make GGG apprehensive and that combined with his great chin he could make it fairly deep into the match, but with GGG's skill advantage, Pavlik would lose by lopsided UD or late KO.

Jermain Taylor could give him some issues early on, but eventually GGG's pressure and power punching would tire him out and break him down, it would be a repeat of Pavlik-Taylor 1 maybe quicker.

Miguel Cotto has zero chance whatsoever. It would look like Cotto-Margarito 1 only a 2 round version.

Kelly Pavlik had some solid fundamentals and a great 1-2.. If Pavlik connected on GGG with that combo which wouldn't be hard I'd bet he hurts GGG pretty bad.. No doubt in my mind given the styles of both fighters, Pavlik would have the better shot imo.

I would give a lot to see GGG against Pavlik, Taylor and prime Martinez

Pavlik isn't even that old, damn alcoholic.

I think you have to have some kind of an inside game to trouble GGG, along with good boxing fundamentals.. No doubt it's Pavlik.

    Pavlik gets hammered.

Taylors speed is the only difference. Could be close.

    GGG is dam good.

Taylor has speed but terrible defense, you gotta have your hands up against GGG.

Martinez at his prime could be problematic. I think Golovkin would win, but it wouldn't be a blowout.
