Which scalp was more impressive? - Froch's Bute, or Ward's Dawson

    Nice one, mate. Just added.

You know, originally I would have said Bute, because I've been pretty vocal in my criticism towards Ward for bypassing Bute and fighting Dawson at a lower weight. I was convinced (and still am) that beating Bute would have looked better for him - unifying titles, dominating an unbeaten fighter, completely wiping the 168 slate clean, etc. All those reasons made Bute the much better option than a tainted points win (which was what I was expecting) over a down-in-weight Dawson.

But destroying him the way he did, raised my eyebrows. All be it a great deal of it having to do with the weight. With the positive image Ward has and his inevitable greatness that’s to come, people will come to remember his destruction of Dawson more than they will of Froch’s over Bute (rightfully or wrongfully).

Better to ask this question in 2 years time. Let's see what Bute and Dawson do with themselves in that time.

If you take into account not only the result but the manner in which they achieved it I would have to say Froch over Bute. At the time my money was on Bute to outbox Froch whereas with Ward v Dawson I fully expected Ward to win it easily - the only think I didnt see was Ward stopping him.

If Ward had of stopped Dawson in the 3rd or 4th then maybe my view would be different but I'd probably still take Froch over Bute if I'm honest.

Easily Bute! Some regarded him higher than Ward whereas Dawson was beaten by someone Froch had beaten and was made to come down a weight. I bet Bute would have finished this Dawson off sooner. I could wuit easily see Dawson crippled by a left to the ribs, whereas Ward couldnt put him away, it was down to Dawson to quit.

If Froch gets his rematch against Ward before another bruising Kessler match and he can start fast and not load up on shots like he did against Bute I can see him beating Ward. Make him uncomfortable like he did in the last couple of rounds of their first fight and how Bika had him holding for dear life in the last few rounds.

At the moment I'd say the Bute dismanteling was more impressive because a) Froch was the clear underdog, b) It was the same weightclass, c) it was a onsided beating from round 1 on.

Everybody (or at least most boxfans) knew Ward would beat Dawson, certainly at 168 and in Oakland... The way he did it was much more impressive as anyone expected though.

I went for Ward, he knocked out Dawson who was a very tough opponent regardless of the weight. Froch over Bute was amazing however Bute was pretty hyped and nowhere near the level of Bad Chad. Could be a tie, but for now I'm leaning towards S.O.G

Bute was nowhere near the level of someone that Pascal beat?

Ward didnt knockout Dawson, Chad quit. Froch nearly ripped Butes head off while he went limp in to the ropes.

lol...it never ends....even after Dominance was clearly established last year head to head.

What you saw this past weekend is what Ward would have done to Froch with 2 good hands...he broke Carl's beak and had him making pain faces all night long with his LESSER hand...

Ward is a statement maker and even made one with a very fractured hand that cold December night....you saw those lefts a couple of days ago...yeah.

Wanted to throw all that back in your pathetic, inferior faces...but all any of the QUALITY Boxing fans here need to know is

This poll having that pumpjob's scalp as more valuable than Dawson's lets you know exactly where you are, and what kind of people you're dealing with...

Both were incredibly impressive, I'm partial to Ward's performance though.

The issue for me with the Dawson win is that it was almost too dominant - suspiciously so. I'm not talking about PEDs or whatever, but the fact that Dawson was really beaten up suggests that he was nowhere near the fighter we know he can be. He got stopped against Ward, who really isn't a puncher, and he also got knocked out against Miranda in sparring. The last fighter Ward stopped was Pudwill in 2009 and he hasn't come close to knocking a fighter down since then either. Fair enough, Dawson has never had a granite chin but at the same time, it's not a clear vulnerability either. My question then would be; if his chin has deteriorated because of the weight, as I believe it has, then did the rest of his physical attributes? Was he not as fast? Did he not hit as hard? Did he have the same stamina he always has? I think it's highly unlikely he was as good as we know he can be.

Bute was the best Bute possible. He trained well, weighed in at his natural weight, got in the ring at his natural weight and so on, so there are no excuses. For Dawson, I think it's possible that he just wasn't the elite level fighter we know he can be.

True. And I've just learned that those sparring rumours of Dawson are true. Apparently he was complaining about starving himself and was too concerned about making weight (spending more time in sauna), than actual training. Miranda knocked him down (or out?) and another guy put beatings on him, too.
