this might be a stupid question in the first place? which sells more skills of the boxer or the excitement or power of the boxer.

it's no brainer that it's the excitment/ power. Look at tyson. he is not the most skillful heavyweight but no doubt he was one of the most exciting and powerful boxer of his time. (May not be the most powerful but defenitely he had the POWER during his prime and very exciting to watch.

Same as pac, he has the power and very exciting to watch. No wonder even if he is not a champion people pay to watch him. One of the highest paid in his weight category.

Pbf is an exemption. I beleive he has the skills and the power combined!

Fans claim that Guzman is very skillful. Same as JMM but I don't think they could get more PPV than PAC.

Conclusion, exciting and powerful boxers get paid more than so called skillful boxers?! Your thoughts?

I think it depends where the fight is to be honest.

The Americans (generally) will not watch a fight unless it is a 'marquee' fight, whereas Brits follow 'their' fighter, in the way you would follow a football, rugby or cricket team. That's why you will see a lot of people sticking up for the likes of Hatton and Calzaghe, and Americans feel we are deluded - we aren't, we just support our guys, whilst fans from other countries change their minds everytime the wind blows!

Is that why undercard fights on big HBO promotions are always in front of, erm............ the judges, promoters and photographers?

I couldn't believe watching the Hatton Mayweather bill on TV, the Ponce de Leon vs whoever fight was in front of a near empty audience, other than Brits warming up ready to support their man!

Compare that to events in the UK - the Enzo Maccarinelli fight against Azzoui was watched by nearly as many who watched Joe against Kessler.

He forgot speed because its a variable both a skillful and a powerful puncher can have.

    I love a puncher with speed..its a lethal combo.

If I say Tyson is the strongest and the most skillful heavyweight boxer... we'll have to start another thread for for that!

tyson is a beast! had tyson met holyfield when he was a little younger he could have ko'd holyfield NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

And Brittany Spears sells more records than artists who have 1000x her talent. Sales dont nessesarily mean better.

An exciting puncher with a good skill set will always be what the public wants. When one of these guys comes around the public turns them into superstars. Pure boxers and pure punchers always stay in the closed boxing circles and make their name by fighting big stars, winning or loosing. But the boxer-puncher is always the one that stands out.
