1 - The second Sonnen fight proved that wrestling and fighting on the ground are still MASSIVE holes in Anderson's game. In that first round he got taken down easily, controlled easily, dominated, mounted, and had to eat some GnP. This problem has shown itself in fights with Sonnen (twice), Henderson and Lutter, amongst others. If Sonnen had more brutal GnP or attempted more submissions, he could have beaten Anderson. If Anderson fights a guy with great takedowns and top control but who is better at finishing fights, he could easily lose. This clear weakness in Anderson Silva cannot be overlooked.

2 - The second Sonnen fight proved that Anderson Silva is very adept at dealing with strong wrestlers. In the first round he got took down because he went for some aggressive strikes straight away, but he smothered Sonnen's attacks and took very, very little damage. Eventually he got mounted, but there's no middleweight in the world who can stop Sonnen from doing that in this type of fight, seeing that he's a world-class wrestler on TRT. No damage was incurred, and in the 2nd round Silva defended takedown attempts successfully, and won the fight, just like he won the Henderson, Lutter, and first Sonnen fights. Silva is a striker but his takedown defence and ground game are not weaknesses, he is adept there and should have no fear of facing any strong wrestler.

He's fought one "strong" wrestler in his entire career and didn't look good. Hendo hasn't used his wrestling in over 10 years and got blanketed by Shields. I hardly think you could consider him a high level wrestler anymore. Okami is garbage compared to his American counterparts.

It's no accident the two best wrestlers in the division, that both have good sub defense, just fought each other. Gotta try and cut down on the chances that Anderson loses.

I'm not even blaming ANderson for ducking wrestlers, there just haven't been very many good ones at MW. Now there are, Weidman UD.

He took down Rampage, Anderson & Franklin 3 years ago

He took down Calvcante a year ago

He knocked out Fedor after he swept to the back clinch a year ago

    He took Shogun down also...

So he hasnt used his wrestling, if you discount some of his biggest fights in the past few years...

    :lol::patsch:hi:

He was humiliated by a WW. So sad.

He was on the bottom against Rampage more than the top.

Shogun took him down just as often.

He gassed and gave up on his game plan against Anderson.

    Rich Franklin? That's impressive.

So I guess your point is that not only is he not an elite wrestler, but he also doesn't have high level cardio?

He used it effectively in losses? Are you trolling?

Chael is not a good fighter, and he nearly beat the alledged "GOAT". What's it say about Anderson, that he had to cheat to beat a B Level fighter?

Yeah, I would conveniently forget the loss to Shields too, if it didn't help my argument.

But hey, he's an elite wrestler that got doninated by a 170lber. Real effective.

By your standards, every fighter uses their wrestling. Pretty easy to win an argument when you twist it in your favor. Way to go, boy, you win the internet.
