Which is more the bull**** stoppage Jay Nady stopping the Tsyu vs Judah fight with no time left on the clock and the 2nd round about to end. or Richard Steele stopping the Chavez vs Taylor fight with a second to go in round 12. for me the Judah stoppage was bull****, guy didnt even get a count Ref was instrumental in the outcome. Judah had a good 1st round and he was the Champ to this day I believe Nady had ulterior Motives.
Haven't yet seen the Tszyu Judah fight but there was nothing whatsoever bull**** about Steele stopping Taylor in that fight. I know Steele has had a somewhat chequered past as a ref in the ring (Once saw him practically helping a fighter to his feet during a count, think it might have been Floyd Snr) but he was right on the money in the Chavez Taylor fight, how was it a bull**** decision again? :huh
Why does a quick judgement call that errs in favor of a fighter's health and safety have to be the result of ulterior motives? Why are people always so quick to cry conspiracy the moment something doesn't go their way? Judah tried to get up, and fell over a second time, on the other side of the damn ring! That's a dangerous situation to be in, regardless of what time of the round he was in. Judah was clearly hurt, and he was in with a huge puncher with good finishing abilities. Who's to say he could have made a complete recovery between rounds? Nady made a call based on what he saw in front of him - Judah wobbling around like he got shot. I would stop the fight in that situation, too.
I think the referee was absolutely right to stop Zab in that fight. The referee is responsible for the safety of both fighters in the ring, if one of them is in no state to continue, then the fight should be stopped for their own safety. Perhaps if Zab had taken the count instead of trying to get up like a macho man trying to prove how hard he was, then there would have been no stoppage (at that point at least). Kostya would have smoked him anyway, one way or the other.
I don't even think you can argue the Zab call, he fell back down. As for Taylor, I think it was the right call. It's not the ref's job to assess time and whether he can finish, how far away Chavez is, etc. He just determines whether the boxer can continue. As he said in the interview afterwards, when he sees a fighter who has had enough, he's calling the fight. And to be fair he asked Taylor if he was alright and Taylor didn't respond.
I'm in agreement with most on this thread, both were good stoppages. I wish the Taylor fight hadn't been mentioned though, now I'm going to be thinking about it for most of the day :-(
If you get up and fall down twice, you are done, fights over. You're a ****ing moron for including that when theres dozens of better examples.
Judah fell back down...case closed. Taylor should have been allowed to continue. It was the first time he had been down in the fight and he was standing upright, with his hands in the air ready to fight for two more seconds. He earned the victory and he should have been given the benefit of the doubt. Even if there was more than two seconds remiaing, i would have at least given him a chance to continue and if he got in trouble again, THEN stop the fight.
calzaghe - manfredo.. I don't think that it changed the outcome but ridicilous stoppage in my opinion..
It was a bit early granted - but Manfredo was copping a right pasting. If the ref had let it continue too much longer he could have killed him. The most ridiculous thing about that fight was Manfredo's comments at the press conference.
