The stoppage was legit but it should have been a DQ of Manfredo for not giving his best. Tim Witherspoon summed it up for me perfectly, he just didn't want to fight. What was it - 30 odd unanswered shots? The kid was out of his depth and knew it.
He said that he was waiting for Calzaghe to punch himself out, enabling him to wear Joe down and stop him late on. Sounds ok in theory, but if your going to do that, at least try and get out of the way or counter, don't sit there like a ****ing muppet - he seemed to forget the referees job is to protect the safety of both guys, and his last instructions were to protect yourselves at all times! The stoppage was early, but it would have come either late in that round or in the next so he should **** off back to where he came from and hide somewhere to save himself the embarrassment. Even Joe was laughing at him in the press conference, which said it all, as Joe is very respectful towards opponents after fights - such as commending Jeff Lacy for staying the distance with him. Manfredo shouldn't have been in there anyway - the WBO/BBBoC should be ashamed.
I think everyone misses Kostya - the haircut, the big right hand etc, and his attitude was exceptional, even in defeat made a point of congratulating his opponents and wishing them well in future. Other fighters should take note. I'm not sure whether i'd like to see him in the ring again though, in case he is a shadow of what he once was, a genuine superstar and future HoF'er.
That's what I was about to say too and I like Joe. Obviously Manfredo had a snowball's chance in hell to win though.
Agreed. IMO the thing Judah did wrong (aside from running straight into that bomb) was try to immediatly jump up to his feet, where IMO if had had just stayed down (perhaps just on a knee) for even a few seconds, then got up just before 10 he would have atleast made it out of the round.
Neither one was compared with Terry O'Connor's premature stoppage of Peter Manfredo. You have to see, Judah did the Harlem shake in that round and Taylor stood back up with both arms holding the ropes and his back against the corner, Manfredo never gave any sign of being seriously hurt ( not that he would win but still).
The Taylor stoppage hands down. There was virtually no time left in the Taylor-JCC fight when it was stopped.
You are quite delusional...I'm sure if you've utilized instant replay you would notice that Taylor was put to SLEEP i.e suffered a concussion at which point the boxers safety is paramount...also Taylor being slapped awake and then asking if he was knocked out is a good indicator of how necessary the stoppage was...and without such great things like instant replay and slow-motion Taylor would'nt be able to tell you how it went down:yep
