Leonard fought in 3 divisions but really only consistently in one.. He fought just a few times at 154, and at 160 how many times? 3? I guess we can put Hearns 2 and Duran 3 at middleweight The Lalonde fight was a joke that was not at 175, and who knows what it meant.. .

They were both fabulous fighters, but Ray Robinson, 200 bouts deep, was the greatest Sugar man.

I think Leonard has the better signature wins, the better defense, straighter punches and a better tactician than Robinson. Robinson obviously has the longevity over Leonard

It is a legit question if a bit of a reach .. Leonard was an exceptional fighter and likely number 2 at welter and as good as anyone Robinson ever fought .. Robinson was just a quarter class better but he was .. a better chin, more two handed power and as tough as anyone .. think about it , in twenty five years heat exhaustion aside he was never stopped. That's insane.

Honestly, it's not as cut and dried as people seem to think.

Leonard does have better signature wins against higher caliber opponents. Plus. he didn't miss out on anyone whereas SRR faced only one member of the Murderer's Row- Wade when the latter was at the end of his career.

SRR had more power, but the margin between them in that category is pretty narrow. Leonard did indeed have better defense and I think he was the better tactician.

I still have SRR ahead, but the question's legit.

Leanard was not in Robinson's league.

TBF, Leonard won world championships at welter and middle. In that regard, he equalled SRR.

And I highly doubt Leonard could do so well vs Maxim, even if we allow him to be more than 155lbs like Robi was.

Just re: Wade, he wasn't just past his prime, coming out of a two and a half year retirement and would never fight again. I think it was honestly just to settle any rumours about the street fight they had.

Wade took a dive in this fight. So either Robinson was doing Wade a favour, giving him a payday. Or the promoter found a fighter in Wade who would take a dive. Maybe a bit of both.
