Champion #1 has the following title reign...

Year 1: TKO 6 Mike Tyson
Year 2: UD 15 Muhammad Ali
Year 3: KO 9 Joe Louis
    Year 4: Retired.

Champion #2 has the following title reign...

Year 1: TKO 6 Mike Tyson, KO 3 Butterbean
Year 2: UD 15 Muhammad Ali, KO 2 Jake Paul
Year 3: KO 9 Joe Louis, KO 1 Charlie Zelenoff
    Year 4: Retired.

Question: Which champion had the better title reign?

I'd say equal. I don't think champion 2's stay busy fights add or subtract to his reign.

The same title reign, option 2 just has some fun/irrelevant filled fights in between his major (and I do mean major) fights

    Champion 2

They have matched everything that champion 1 has accomplished, so any additional wins woudl theoretically push them ahead.

:) I'd say nr. 2, since it is taking more risks. Very slightly so (Zelenoff, really? :)), but still...

On the other hand, I can also buy the argument that the championship should never be risked against someone who's not worthy of a shot. That those should be non-title fights.

One guy beat Butterbean and one did not.

Why is this even a question?

Subjective opinion. 1970's Muhammad Ali loses in 15 rounds, plausible, would look like Ali vs Spinks I on Feb 15 1978. But Tyson vs 1967 Ali could be a different story, Ali did not rope a dope but had amazing stamina to drag a puncher into the later rounds, dance for 15 rounds without missing a beat.
