If Cotto achieved all that you suggested, and Floyd say...beat DLH again, and lost to Cotto and then retired, Cotto for me would rank higher.

You'd indeed have a very strong case for Cotto to be ranked higher.

I don't know man. Miguel Cotto's career is pretty unique because he wasn't hyped up at all. No one believed in him because he didn't really generate a lot of buzz as he came up. He came up in the shadows of Trinidad and as the fighter to fill in Tito's footsteps.

But I really like what Larry Merchant said in an interview with steve kim in maxboxing, he said "He may be one of those rare fighters of this generation that actually fights his way to the top, instead of maneuvering himself to the top."

That pretty much sums up Cotto, No one is going to believe in his potential and ability to beat A level fighters now, And no one is going to believe in his H2H ability right now either.

He has to keep proving the doubters wrong, and he needs to keep improving. With the exception of Mayweather I think Cotto easily cleans out the division. I think its a shame that he had weight issues at 140lbs, I think if he would have been healthy at that weight he would have absolutely obliterated anyone at that weight, his combinations were so fluid, his punches came out on a dime and ridiculously technical and accurate. If he does beat Floyd and in about 2 years challenges a title holder at 154 like lets say a cat like Martyrosyan down the line or Angulo..Or maybe the old Forrest.

    Than that would be impressive.

Heres a question for you. If you could take away Cotto's weight draining issues at 140lbs, and bless Cotto with an ATG chin like Julio Cesar Chavez quality chin.

If Cotto had the chin, how would you pick him against past ATG @ 140lbs? I think his mix of speed/technique/strategy/power was unreal at 140lbs, he was just weight drained.

So I'm talking about early career Cotto + Iron Chin @ 140lbs...What greats would he beat?

His so called sketchy chin hurts him h2h but makes his fights so fun to watch live hehe. I honestly think the Cotto at 140lbs if he didn't have the weight draining issues + a god given better chin, he would have beaten many ATGs..His skill was scary down there.

I'm not sure who he'd beat, but I'd still take Pryor, Duran, Benitez, and Whitaker over Cotto, even if he had a Chavez-like chin.

It's definitely a shame he couldn't stay at 140 for a bit longer and pick up wins over Hatton and Witter.

I guess we gotta see how he develops mentally with more experience. When his career is all said and done, and he finishes his career impressively. Do you think that opinion would change given those factors?

Not sure to be honest with you. I will say that if he goes on to destroy the welterweight division (which I expect him to), my H2H ranking of him would go way up though - much higher than it is now. If he continues to improve, that's a very scary thought for up and comers at 147 and 140.
