Not sure what the specifics were between Norton and Holmes, perhaps talking it up and then going too far?

Anyway, I know Norton referred to Holmes as Neanderthal Man based on his facial/head appearance. Ali also called Holmes Peanut Head or The Peanut. Not so nice yet with all that, it was Larry who was supposed to be the self driven angry guy?

Not just boxing but in real life some of the strongest friendships arise out of what once was bitter rivalry and animosity.

Perhaps some of those involved in such dynamics realised that the initial cause of the friction was because they were in fact very much alike - not least being that many ATGs possess oversized Egos - later they may have come to respect one another simply because they share/shared the same drive toward excellence and success.

If there was the greatest potential for some animosity I might’ve thought that would arise between Dempsey and Tunney - but of course as we know, it wasn’t so, rather, they were quite bonded in later years.

Old Jack even publicly supported Gene’s son during his political career. Dempsey’’s rags to riches story and public standing in his later years couldn’t have been exceeded by any imagined movie script.

Shout out to @he grant - you did a doco on Larry, right? What was the crux of the animosity between Larry and Ken? Thanks.

I didnt see it in this thread so if its already up then I agree.
Bazooka Limon vs Bobby Chacon 4.
I know leading up to the fight Chacon's wife comitted suicide and Bazooka said he was going to send Chacon to hell to see her. I think they made up after though.
ODLH vs Mayorga was legit also

I think in most of these posts the fury was not even at least openly .. Larry and Ken had very bad blood going into the fight .. Norton was arrogant and dismissive while Holmes was raw and had a big chip .. as far as Spinks goes there was an incident at an event with Larry's wife that very much pissed Homes off in a personal way and a fight at the event had to be broken up ... going into the fight Leon was Leon and Holmes crushed him at Leon's career best ..
