And keep the equally good responses coming, those two fights do indeed underline the brilliance of MAB. :good

    Jean Pascal

Adrian Diaconu 2 - Ability to go to war, get stuck in and trade punches with a big, hard puncher. Pascal showed the ability to fight under pressure and then apply pressure of his own to a tough fighter. What makes Pascal's performance even more admirable was the fact he fought with a badly injured shoulder. Yet despite this, he never stopped taking the fight to Diaconu. Pascal showed agression, heart, and the will to continue fighting through the pain.

Chad Dawson - Pascal showed a completely different side of him that spectators had not yet seen before. He circled from the outside, using his agility and speed of foot to stay out of Dawson's long range and mount offensive's from the outside. His speed and use of tactics were something Pascal has not displayed before, and suprised everyone, Dawson included. Chad was never allowed to consistently land on Pascal as Jean circled from the outside before rushing in with fast combinations. This greatly troubled Dawson who had no tactical answer to combat Pascals style. Dawson was an extremely talented, very high ranked fighter who had never lost. Yet Pascal showed what he had lacked in previous fights; A gameplan. It was the first time he fully used his attributes to his advantage.

Not my top fav but I'm going with JMM-

Pac 2: Showed good counterpunching when Pacquiao was coming in at times while fighting at close and mid range.

Katsidis: Fought great on the inside getting off beautiful combinations with much pressure on him.

Two excellent performances for sure, but do they really show two different sides to JMM? :think

    Shane Mosley:

TKO9 Antonio Margarito - You want to a showcase of strength, speed, general athleticism? This fight shows how the older but more athletically gifted fight bullied the younger bigger guy around, beat him to the punch, hit him harder than Margarito could hit Shane. I was truly gobsmacked after watching this.

UD12 Luis Collazo - For a man that many say "can't jab, doesn't have a defence, can't really box etc" this fight was a sheer one-sided boxing lesson from the Sugar man on a quick boxer type fighter who has trouble hordes of top fighters before and since.

Another great thread Popkins, I'll do a de la Hoya one later when I've made my mind up, I'm currently considering 44 of his fights :yep

Good call here actually. The Collazo fight is often overlooked/disregarded.

Yeah definitely come back on the Oscar issue, ODLH would be a great one to consider for this thread.

One focuses primarily on infighting(Katsidis fight) where the other focuses more on counterpunching & fighting from both close/mid range opposed to keeping it in a phone booth. He does fight aggressive in both but in the second Pacquiao fight he seemed more patient to let his hands go imo. I'll rewatch them because I could be off.

Holyfield. Another one not in my top 3 but still one of my fav fighters.

Bowe 2- Showed a more "boxer-type" approach using his jab beautifully at times.

Foreman- More of a brawling style but picked his times to trade quite well.

Good call on Sweet Pea. The Harold Brazier fight is also a terrific showcase of his ability to fight on the front-foot + his bodywork and inside skills.

Sam Peter - Hype Job (Any fight where it ended with him shouting at everyone like a madman "WHO NEX ?!? WHO NEX?!?"

Sam Peter - Journeyman (Put him in with a BOXER and he has no hope whatsoever)

Here's another one for you :
Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy - Prospect up against Robin Reid, upcoming "star"

Jeff "What Hook" Lacy - Lost to a guy who had more losses than wins in his own hometown.

    Then there's always Carlos Mayorga.
El Matador smoking a cigarette when he wins a fight.
El Matador smoking a blunt & drinking a beer when he loses a fight.

    Miguel Cotto

Ricardo Torres(KO 7): Got caught up in a fight he didnt need to with a very hard puching and deceptively quick fighter. Possibly he underestimated him due to the fact he was a late replacement but when he got caught and hurt he decided that going to war was the best medicine and this led to a great fight. Mutiple knockdowns, countless occasions where both were hurt, which ultimitely resulted in Cotto's will coming off best and him eventually disposing of the Columbian in the seventh.

Shane Mosley(UD 12)- He had obviously learned his lesson because in this fight he was faced with a big welterweight who was physically stronger and had greater athleticism than him and he deided to fight smart and box off his very good, underrated jab. He tired a bit towards the end but it was a close but clear win and one that established him as one of the sports best.

His inside fighting is brilliant in the 1st McGirt fight too.

Though I should really have included the Nazario fight, as a one-punch 1st round KO artist was certainly a different side to Whitaker!

Good call. These fights do show Cotto's versatility.
