Bristol and Birmingham must be in the argument.

Liverpool has consistently produced quality fighters. Rudkin, Conteh, Charley White, etc.

Per capita, the town of Methry Tydfil (current population c.60,000) hasn't done too bad.

Jimmy Wilde (either best or 2nd best British fighter of all time, depending on what nationality you consider Bob Fitzsimmons to be)
    Howard Winstone
    Johnny Owens
    Cuthbert Taylor
    Eddie Thomas

There you go. That is amazing!

It is like in Colombia, San Basilio de Palenque has 4 thousand people and they produced Antonio Cervantes and Bernardo Caraballo.

Joey Singleton. Now there's a name- he used to manage one of my local pubs after retirement.

Roderick, Holligan, Bellew, Neary, Smith Bros, Billy Aird, Robbie Davies (of those who haven't been mentioned yet).

Robbie Davies never went anywhere without either his 1976 Olympic jacket or cap (either one or the other :D). He was supposed to have a couple of legendary ding-dongs in the street with Terry O'Neill (the Aintree Iron) too.

London is obviously the answer, simply size & number of fighters that domiciled there, be it they're home or if they relocated there to be in the Hub. BUT the North West & East and Glasgow are all equally in it, especially population wise.

the Truth is Britain has produced many, many great fighters over the years, known & not so well known, especially from bygone days.

    Hi Buddy.
Robbie Davies, how dare I not mention him, my 2 favourite amateurs of all time were, Dave Williams from Brookside what a fighter he was, a combination of Armstrong and Greb, he would race across the ring move inside and lather the opponent with incessant flurrys of punches, head and body, particularly the body would have to sustain a unremitting barrage of hurfull punches, Williams looked for all the world like a robot, expressionless face, head down, and arms that never stopped even for second, coupled with limitless stamina and a rock solid chin, you can catch a glimpse of him on YT.
Then we have Davies, a out and out slugger, prob one of the hardest punching amateurs of all time, he had a run to the 72 ABAs where by he had stopped or KOd 6 count em, 6 opponents in the first round, he was outboxed in the final by Roger Maxwell from the army, when Davises was in the ring you were guaranteed action, he had a fairly short pro career, more wins than losses, most of the wins via the KO route, reminds me, I was in a pub in Hackney back in the early 70s, when who should walk in but Billy Knight. a very good amateur himself, got to talking and I asked him who was the roughest, hardest, opponent he had shared a ring with, in a instant came the reply, " that ginger haired nutter from Liverpool " those were the days.... cue Mary Hopkins.
    stay safe matey, chat soon.

Great info Mike, I'll have to check Williams out. Yeah, funny with with Robbie- great amateur career but not much as a professional- yet his style seemed far more suited to the pro game.

Joe..... Calz............. nah, Jimmy Wilde !! I mean, yeah Jimmy Wilde is the biggest ATG that came from UK and he is welsh ! No english or scotish or northern irish fighter can be put above him in a ATG list.

Depends if you consider Fitzsimmons British. He's #1, imo, if you do, with Wilde a clear #2.
