    Really? Birmingham?
Birmingham has got to be the most under perfrormimg city in the history of sport (especially boxing) that I have ever come across. It has a very similar demographic and metropolitan City region population as Manchester, but is does not come anywhere near Manchester for boxing, football and sports in general.
Non offence but there’s not a chance that it is birmingham or Bristol for that matter ….how do you get Bristol also ???

    Agree 100% and I'm a Brummie.

It's not just boxing or football. Musically, we hugely underperform too.

MANCHESTER and as much as it pains me, I gotta shout out and give props to
Liverpool. Obviously London has produced some talent and Sheffield has done very well for its size.
Birmingham & Newcastle have come well short considering their size and demographics and their self professed tough City images…..

But Manchester is King of The Ring for me !

All operated at the highest level and I think every single one of them have held belts - Which is probably why MANCHESTER is regarded as one of the Worlds Greatest Fight Cities.

    Hey Eddie,
It must be frustrating to be a Brummie, I spent some time down there and couldn’t understand why it was so similar in population to Greater Manchester (and you guys have a very similar dry wit kind of humour as Mancs) but when it comes to sports and music you seemed to completely underperform, which I still can’t understand to this day. You’ve had a few boxers and a few bands but for the size of the place, you’d expect a lot more.
I noticed there’s been one or two shows in brim over the last few years, hopefully that will help the sport grow in such a big catchment area….keep the faith ☮️

London, Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield are the notable ones.

And that part of the book was probably the first pages every Irish man went to

He learnt his trade partly from his father but he has a Manc/English accent and he learnt his trade at Champs Camp in Manchester anyway (and some from Bartley Gorman). Tyson trained most notably at Jimmy Egan’s on Wythenshawe, but also trained a lot of the Manchester gyms….def made in Manchester !

I know the Irish lads will feel mugged off but he is English Mancunian.

I can say I’m Irish if I go back to my great Nanna but I know that was generations ago and I know I was born in England, so whilst I will glance at history I’m grateful to the country I grew up in….Tysons not
Much different but might milk it for an Olympic spot or to grow a fanbase

Don’t think they feel that mugged off.
The great ‘forced’ diaspora did have its rewards as it had produced six other heavyweight champions (including a shared Fitz in that) as well as countless fighters in the hall of fame with Irish roots.

Keep the faith indeed. Off to Liverpool to see Northern Soul at the Proms with Liverpool Philharmonic. Have to leave town for decent music.

Still. We gave the country Frank Skinner. One of the funniest men ever imho.
