I was thinking about this earlier and I honestly don't think anyone from these shores can do anything against him, Saunders isn't the slick gypsy Ali that he's been made out to be, he just brushed the face of a badly conditioned Lemmy for 12 rounds 3 years ago and made him miss badly once. I think there are guys from around the world at Light Heavy that could trouble Alvarez, Beterbiev and Bivol possibly are the first two that come into my head. The chances are that we'll see Alvarez go up and down the two divisions taking the most winnable fights he can, padding the record, padding the defences and building the legacy that will only really tell half the story.
Probably Eubank. Would back him to beat every person in that poll with not much bother but I could see Eubank really putting it on him for as long as it lasts
Khan if they were the same weight...... And had a chin transplant Saunders maybe a few years ago... Not now
Saunders IMO. I think he is the style of fighter - southpaw with slick footwork - that Canelo has not looked great against in the past. However, he doesn't live the life the way Canelo does and his recent opposition and performances have been far too poor to make such a big step up successfully. Eubank gets lit up, both him and Ryder play completely into Canelo's hands and none of the light heavyweight crop are proven at anything higher than domestic/ commonwealth level as of yet. If any of them were ever to progress into a fighter that could trouble a Canelo, it would probably be Buatsi, but even he has a long way to go yet.
I think none of them beat him for the record, even the light heavys. Eubank is the most fun though and would make him take 1 or 2 steps back at least.
None of em. For all the talk of British boxing being booming etc, I think it’s in the worst state it’s been for years.
I can see BJS footwork and elusv8eness providing Canelo problems. Eubanks speed, power and having his fathers iron chin would make for entertaining fight but I expect the technically superior Canelo to comforbably win that match up on points.
Jnr would be the most fun to watch of the names mentioned but probably the least deserving of a shot at the Mexican right now. I would be hoping that he could Yildrim him but in reality I think jnr would be made a fool of and remind us, again, of the level that he is at. Edit - least deserving of the SMW's mentioned, none of the Light Heavys deserve to share a ring with Alvarez, I like Johnson but he's a JG fighter and would probably just offer as much as Smith
