Which "undefeateds" were groomed for the express purpose of cashing out on a loss?

Good call, I do wonder if this was done since he had cancer, i mean his management would wanna secure a big pay day and maybe Wlad was giving the guy a crack just out of charity

sounds like a stretch but who knows

I say Chavez junior, Juan Manuel Lopez (Arum should've cashed him out against Gamboa) and probably Calvin Brock....could probably say Pavlik to an extent

Francisco Bojado. I remember the commentators were building him up like he was the next Duran or something. It was almost as bad as Chris Matthew's riding Obama's nuttsak. Sometimes I wonder if payola goes to the commentators to build up a certain fighter. Bojado proved to be journeyman material at best.

I know he looked like a dime store mannequin against ***y Sergio, but he's good enough to win another title or two. If he avoids Sergio that is. I think him and Canelo would be a competitive match up, if people don't mind seeing a light heavyweight fighting a Jr Middleweight.

Spinks had beat Holmes, so that wasn't really a good example.

A few of Klitscko's opponents. In fact, some of the guys fighting on his team look like they are just getting fattened up for them to KO.

A lot of guys that fought under Mogens Palle over the years. Brian Nielsen is probably the most glaring example, though they tried to milk his notoriety from the Olympics a long time in Denmark before they finally got the Tyson fight. The plan had actaully been to send him up against Foreman, but then he dehydrated and lost to Dicky Ryan so that plan failed.

Just out of curiosity, does the TS have any particular current names in mind?

Something must have made you think of starting this thread.

Anyhows, I'm a cynical **bull****** myself, but I doubt it's ever quite that simple. Todays current HW division practically begs for that kinda manipulation, and I guess with the advent of the internet and social media, hype's easier than ever to generate.

Of course, every fighter's gonna be put through some easy fights at first, it's more a matter of prolonging the period until they step up, whilst simultaneously using every tool in the book to generate public interest. Not so different to what would be done anyway, but absolutely minimising any risk of losing, even at the expense of professional credibility.

Remember, of course, that the champions also benefit if they get a massively overhyped contender with public interest; they get the money and an easy fight.

In fact, as always, its Joe Punter who's getting screwed over.

    Oh yeah.

    Fury
    Wilder
    Abdusalamov

    :yep
