The Vargas pre Tito put his punches together in combinations, had tremendous footwork and balance and good reflexes none of those were evident against Oscar he threw no combinations and he looked leaden footed.

and he still competed with oscar the entire fight until the 11th

i think vargas in his prime aka pre tito would have beaten oscar by close decision

If Oscar was coming up from Welterweight without a tuneup at 154 Vargas probablly beats him.

DLH was the betting favorite, and nearly all the people they polled on World Boxing previewing the fight picked DLH to win. Same with the sports writers, as Jim Lampley commented on it during the fight.

The Vargas that fought Tito would have knocked out the Vargas that fought DLH. Tito stopped Vargas' career from blossoming in that one fight. The physical and mental beating that Vargas took that night was what made him go from a rising star to a falling star (what an analogy, huh? :hey). Anyhow, as some have said. If you look at Vargas in the Tito fight, he was fluid and could bend some at the waist. In the DLH fight, he looked robotic and was certainly not the same fighter. He could barely bend at the waist. What I am trying to say is that he could not avoid that many punches in the DLH fight as he showed and did in the Tito fight. His back problems certainly played a role in his loss to DLH, but I firmly believe Tito pretty much ended Vargas' career that night.

Besides, if you follow boxing, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, DLH swore that he would never give Vargas an opportunity to make money, so he refused to fight him. When Vargas was dropped by Rivera, who is not known for being heavy-handed, DLH was salivating at the mouth and finally gave the o.k. to fight Vargas. He knew that Vargas was not the same, and never would be.

Vargas had too much balls for his own good, taking on Tito with only 20 profesional fights as a 22year old was not good for his career.

Imo, the Vargas that fought DLH should have been closer to his prime but Tito did take something from vargas that night.

That whole fight came down to 2 punches, the left that KO'd vargas early and the low-blow Tito used right after he himself was knocked down(in the 5th I believe)!

the vargas that lost to trinidad had a better chin and better reflexes. no one would argue that DLH hits harder than Trinidad and Vargas lasted longer against Tito despite getting knocked down repeatedly than he did against DLH

One theory is that Main Events was worried about Vargas's problems outside the ring and wanted to cash out before he self-destructed outside the ring.
