It's a good question. Taking hindsight out of the equation here. I'm kinda torn on it regarding both Fury's 2nd bout with wilder and Usyk's 1st fight with AJ in that I was more confident for Usyk to win against AJ. I wasn't quite so sure that Fury was definitely gonna beat Wilder in the 2nd bout. However in Fury's 3rd bout with wilder I couldn't see it going any other way than it did and pretty much the same with Usyk's 2nd bout with AJ. I expected rinse and repeat both times there even though Fury had dramas in the 3rd Wilder fight. I'll slightly lean towards Fury's 2nd bout with Wilder over Usyk's first bout with AJ being more impressive/expected but it's ciggy paper close for me.
Saying Wilder is better than Joshua or Joshua is better than Wilder is a personal opinion nothing else, let them get in the ring and we will know which one is the best .
Fury showed great offense at times, but still was down more times than a whores knickers. Uysk just clinic and never in a bad state.
That’s a good analysis of which fighters wins were more impressive. Both Fury and Usyk did well but like you mentioned I always knew Usyk was too good for Joshua but wasn’t so sure if Fury could pull it off in the first Wilder fight after the massive weight loss and then the second fight people still favoured Wilder to continue where he left off in round 12 of the first fight and KO Fury but the fitter Fury upped his game and destroyed him.
Usyk. Though the Wilder trilogy is far more watchable .. saying that tho Joshua was coming off a recent ass kicking by a beached whale whereas Wilder was Undefeated ..
It depends by what criteria? As a pound for pound feat, then Usyk’s wins. If, more simply, which is the more impressive feat for two guys assessed solely as current heavyweights, then maybe a HW stopping undefeated Wilder twice trumps a HW outpointing AJ twice.
Usyk was at a greater perceived disadvantage. Smaller man moving up who went on to win with out much difficulty. Fury was the bigger man and he struggled with Wilder 2 out of the 3 fights. -Fury Wilder 1, a different ref might have stopped that fight in the 12th. Fury hit the floor hard. I can easily see a ref immediately waiving him off. The ref was good though and did his job well. Fury was robbed a win there and walked away with a bogus draw. -The second fight; Fury already proved to be better than Wilder, so his win was not a surprise. The surprise the strategy he used. -Fury Wilder 3. Fury was seconds away from being stopped there too. He went down twice in a round. A little more time on the clock, he was going down again, and most refs waive it off if you go down three times in a round. Fury Wilder 3 was a fun fight, but Fury had a hard night against a guy he easily dismantled in the 2nd fight.
This statement will haunt my every waking moment with existential terror. They do not make water hot enough to make me ever feel clean again. A curse upon your house for unleashing that image. A pox, a blight.
Got to go with Fury Wilder. For one I rate Wilder above AJ. For another reason both men dug deep and left everything in the ring in that trilogy. Wilder was willing to die in the ring and that intensity was not matched by AJ (not even close) and that is one reason he was so upset post fight because he knew he was not willing to take risks necessary to win. Historically Usyk will be viewed as more impressive but I feel Fury showed us more because he had an opponent who was consumed with destroying him.
Fury's wins were more impressive. Wilder was undefeated, he'd been the WBC Heavyweight Champion for five years, he was making his 11th title defense, he'd already floored Fury twice and successfully defended against him. And Fury ended one of the longer reigns in heavyweight history and Wilder's 12-year, 44 fight unbeaten streak, emphatically. In the third meeting, Fury had to get off the floor twice to defeat Wilder in the Fight of the Year. On the other hand, Joshua was making the second defense of the belts he won from Andy Ruiz, who had already dropped Joshua four times and stopped him. Most of the public agreed Ruiz ate his way out of the title. When Usyk upset Joshua, it wasn't earth shattering. We saw Joshua lose in worse fashion two fights earlier. Usyk never dropped Joshua. Joshua never dropped Usyk. Both fights went to a decision. Usyk's upset win over Joshua didn't even garner Fight of the Year status, that went to Fury-Wilder III. The rematch was kind of tedious and uneventful. Some people even think Joshua outboxed Usyk and won the rematch (although I'm not one of them.) The most memorable thing (and the only highlights being shown) regarding the return match are of Joshua's tantrum. Because there weren't a lot of fight highlights in either bout that were truly memorable. In the end, they were just two decent boxing matches. Now, 48 hours after the fight, people are already talking about Fury-Usyk in December. People have already moved on.
I have always rated Wilder above Joshua. Also Wilder was undefeated. Joshua was not. Fury stopped Wilder. Usyk did not stop Joshua. Usyk did show masterful boxing but so did Fury.
