I've just started getting into it as well. I'm still trying to figure out who the 'names' are....so far I could name three UFC fighters...Anderson Silva, Michael Bisping, and Rich Franklin. :deal

the good old days when UFC use to come on at like 2 in the morning.....I use to love that.
I'd just stay up in my bed and watch it.

    Yes. The VHS era.

Up through and including Tito's rookie days.

I found the constant unpredictability of discipline matchups (and never quite knowing whether it was the winning discipline or the winning man that was better) to be thrilling. The universal cross-training era, while it certainly produces more effective and impressive fighters, just isn't as compelling.

Kinda hard to say as all the cards start to blend together after a while but UFC 84 & UFC 81 where good/memorable. Also UFC: Fight for the Troops for shear brutality, it should have been renamed "Fight for the Fighters". The best consitent MMA in my opinion is the WEC on the versus channel. It's easier to name some of the fighters you should watch out for as opposed to events.

    WEC
Miguel Torres 135 bantamweight champion (his last title defense was awesome)
    37-1 (Torres claims a ledger of 49-1)

Jose Aldo 145 featherweight 15-1 (kids a live wire)
    His last fight (don't blink)

Mike Thomas Brown 145 featherweight champion 22-4 (heart & power)

Urijah Faber 145 featherweight 22-3 (lost to Brown 2 x's and people are still calling for rematch)

Damacio Page 135 bantamweight 11-4 (his nick name "The Angel of Death" is well earned as his fights end fast and violently)

Brian Bowles 135 bantamweight 7-0 (is fighting for the belt next)

Also look out for the Jamie Varner 16-2 vs. Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone 10-1 rematch, should be a war.

    UFC

a fight of the year candidate just went down between LW's Diego Sanchez 21-2 & Clay Guida 25-10 (Sanchez will now probably fight for the belt against the winner of Penn vs. Florian

B.J. Penn 13-5-1 lightweight champion 155 (only 1 loss at LW which was avenged) is fighting Florian at UFC 101 has good boxing (Roach claims the best in MMA) and sick BJJ.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFqtAR9Zue0

Kenny Florian 11-3 lightweight 155 (only 1 loss at LW which was in a title fight) "KenFlo" besides having the worst nick in MMA he co-hosts MMA Live on ESPN.com. He has good BJJ and Muay Thai.

Frankie Edgar 10-1 lightweight 155 is a bit small for the division but really talented he has good wrestling and boxing

Gray Maynard 7-0 lightweight 155 he's a really raw and not to fun to watch powerhouse wrestler who has beaten 3 quality opponents in a row. Once his BJJ and boxing improve watch for him to do big things.

Georges St. Pierre 18-2 welterweight champion 170 (both loss were definitively avenged) St. Pierre might be the most well rounded fighter in MMA, his 5 rounder with Jon Fitch 18-3 was a beat down. he's taking on Muay Thai striker Thiago Alves 16-3 at UFC 100.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np4DQ4y6Q_U

Carlos Condit 22-5 welterweight 170 he was the WEC welterweight champion before the division was merged with the UFC he's never in a boring fight and always trys to finish. he has slick BJJ

Dustin Hazelett 12-4 welterweight 170 he has very slick BJJ (won submission of the year last year), has a great beard, and his nick name is "McLovin"!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9RWVEAQeC0

Anderson Silva 24-4 middleweight champion 185 has sick Muay Thai and good offensive BJJ has been criticized for his last two fights which were pretty boring but none the less in my opinion is P4P best in MMA. He's fighting former light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 101.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3M4VacJ4NU

Demian Maia 10-0 middleweight 185 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu rides high again! But can old UFC 1 single discipline make it to the top?

Nate Marquardt 28-8-2 middleweight 185 strong, brutal, and entertaining he will fight Maia at UFC 102 on his way back to a title shot.

Lyoto Machida 15-0 light heavyweight champion 205 "You want Karate?" will face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua 18-3 at UFC 104
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gViEZzvPP28

Quinton Jackson 30-7 light heavyweight 205 is at his best when he's doing more than just boxing but none the less he's a bad man. If he gets by Rashad Evans who he's coaching against on the next season of the ultimate fighter he'll get a title shot.

Luis Arthur Cane 10-1 light heavyweight 205 hot current prospect to keep a eye on.

Jon Jones 8-0 light heavyweight 205 future prospect to keep a eye on once he gets a good boxing coach.

Brock Lesnar 3-1 heavyweight champion 205-265 what can you say he came he saw he conquered, well except for his UFC debut against Frank Mir 12-3 in which he got kneebar'd, in any case he'll get his chance for vengeance at UFC 100 when they rematch.

Junior dos Santos 8-1 heavyweight 205-265 kickboxer with big upside the UFC is bringing him along slowly after smashed former top 10 HW Fabricio Werdum. he'll be in action again at UFC 102.

Shane Carwin 11-0 heavyweight 205-265 11 fights and 11 1st round stoppages for the full time engineer. Stud wrestler with power in his hands.

Cain Velasquez 6-0 heavyweight 205-265 Beastly wrestler but needs more time to develop both BJJ & striking.

Hope this helps out a bit.
