    Quit making wild generalizations.

Tarver will be (if he's still alive, which is likely).

    He began boxing at 28.

(BTW, Bernard was a late starter too)

:patsch This is a joke, Hopkins used to have a 75% KO to win ratio, anyone who saw him in the 90s knows he was much better than he is now, he used to really bust people up the Holmes fight along with the Tito and Joppy fights are about the last fights he fought at his best IMO. Now he no longer breaks fighters down, he simply outpoints them. Hopkins is about 5 yrs out of his prime, only on esb will some clown claima 43 yr old is better than he was at 28 ...:rofl :-(

    Not sure.

But at his age, maybe he could be better at 175 (where he began) than at 160, where he can't make as easily any more. (He fougt Taylor twice at 160).

Tarver is not 43 yet, so no, you can't count him. Who knows what that guy will look like in 3 or 4 years. And Hopkins was like 23 or 24 when he turned pro. So he wasn't all that late of a starter. He had been in the game for a few years when he was 27. He wasn't quite at his peak, but he was definately better than the current version. The current version of Hopkins is about 10 years removed from his peak.

Now he is a better LHW than MW, even though he has a record 20 defenses....:rofl

Now even you know, JonOli, (or should) that Joe has a lot ff wins on his record that are clearly better than a win over a 27 year old Hopkins would have been.

You think Hopkins would be able to make 160 now and still produce the same level of form?

:patsch Hopkins is NOT fighting better now, IMO the one that lost to Taylor was better than the one who gave Pavlik a boxing lesson, his best weight is and was always MW, he fights at LHW because he probabaly can't make 160 anymore, further more he has only fought once at LHW the other fights have been against smaller guys at catch weights.

If Bernard had passed away on his 28th birthday (Praise all the gods that he didn't) he would scarcely be mentioned, and not more than 1 % of this great forum would recognize his name.

    So lets try again.

    Kessler, lacy, Eubank Reid, Mitchell.....

    The list is lengthy.

The Hopkins that Roy beat wasn't that impressive, he was good solid fighter then but that's all.

Roy was far from prime either mind.

    'fraid not.

If Bernard had crossed the Jordan on his 28th birthday (Thank all that's sacred that he did NOT ! ), his record in the sweet science would have been

    22-1-0

against a less than stellar set of opponents. Only ight of his opponent would have held winning records when he faced them (those in red).

Now if you want to move on to the 28 yearold version that Jones beat, you would have to add one more name to Bernard's resume:

    Gilbert Baptist (26-14-0)

I don't think that moves even the hypothetical 28 year-old Bernard into the upper echelon of Calzaghe's wins.

    Not winding you up.

I'll do that some other time.

Saturday night you were praising Joe to the hilt for beating up an old Roy Jones... your point here has slight more credence... anyway...

...did Hopkins gas really badly against Joe, was a major factor in that because of his old age?
