I was watching these yesterday. I had always thought the first fight was better, but now I don't know. I love the rematch as well.

I don't know if it's actually a better fight, maybe I just like rewatching it better because of the ending, the film quality, winning the title in such a dramatic way, but I like watching the rematch more. That 8th round was just amazing.

These two fights and the Yaqui Lopez are 3 of the greatest LHW fights ever. The only better one of the top of my head is Moore-Durelle 1.

I like the rematch better, too. Saad-Conteh I isn't bad, either.

I like the second one better

A lot of people prefer the first one for pure sustained action.

The video for the first fight is kind of grainy

The tv production is better on the second one

Also, the stakes were higher and so the significance was higher.

Saad Muhammad had the clutchness and killer instinct that great fighters posess.

He couldn't wait to get off his stool to attack Johnson in the 8th round. He smelled blood after hurting Johnson at the end of the 7th round.

And the fact that his face was a mask of blood early in the 8th round and he simply walked through Johnson and mowed him down made it all the more exciting.

Saad Muhammad knew he had to ko Johnson in the 8th or risk having the fight stopped on cuts, and he methodically, stoically accomplished the said mission.
