He was motivated for Vargas. He was relatively motivated for Hopkins, in the way that he seemed to understand if he wasn't in shape, he'd get hurt. Mayorga motivated him too but he was past it by that point.

Mayweather motivated DLH too. His peak as a fighter ended after the second Mosley fight, after then it was about money and boosting the profile of his GBP.

As far as being at his personal best. Vargas fight. You can even argue that he was still prime going into the second Mosley fight. Just becase you lose dose not mean your not in your prime. That was a different fight altogether. Oscar looked like **** against Sturm just walking in to the ring. Oscar looked good coming in against Hopkins and fought with no indication of being past prime until Hopkins stopped him. It's the difference in how well he prepared.

 

Mosley 2. Actually most think he won 8-4 or 7 rounds to 5, but he won. Looked wicked fast and the most complete as a fighter in there. Looked really motivated.

 

It was painfully obvious by the way DLH came into the ring against Sturm that he did not take this fight seriously and was no longer a full time fighter.
