For me it's Lewis vs Vitali.

Lewis came in bloated and overconfident, and took a shellacking off the bat. He was outclassed, outmuscled and out-younged. He looked like he was clearly on the way to a KO loss.

Instead of stinking the joint out and hugging the rest of the match, or running like a chicken, he dug deep and brawled with Vitali, and tore half his face off. When they stopped the fight he looked like he was about to die of a heartattack; he'd gone all out and left nothing in reserve. For a guy that they said didn't have heart, and was pretty old, to pull that off was a great performance. Especially since I'd say Vitali would have beaten that version of Lewis 7/10.

Wasn't a title winning fight though mate. But see your point. Last hurrah from the Lewis legend. Never thought that would be his last fight at the time.

It is over looked, very much so. Before my time but from what I've picked up about that fight, is clay had no chance whatsoever. Liston was going to reign for years. Cooper had knocked him flying so liston was going to kill him. Clay was scared **** less. And then came the fight. Ali was great in that fight. Be surprised If most heavy s from history could do that to liston the champ.

As my favorites have already been mentioned, I would mention Liston vs. Patterson I.
    Two minutes and six seconds!

Page winning the title against Coetzee was a first time title win for him wasn't it?

Anyway I always thought there was something mighty suspicious about that fight. Coetzee had always been pretty resilient taking the best shots from the likes of Pinklon Thomas and Michael Dokes and Page had never been noted as much of a puncher yet it was a pretty easy KO victory for Page in the end. Very Strange indeed!

And another one from the alphabet soup years , Bone crusher blasting spoon to the canvas. Impressive, even though spoon s heart wasn't in the fight.

Marciano vs Walcott I is overlooked due to time passing. Young Rock...way behind on points, "one punches" Walcott out to take title late in 15 rd fight.

Sullivan Corbett set the narrative for so many title transitions to follow, the passing of the torch, the young phenom replacing the aging brute. It provided a template for the division that has yet to be broken.

Is Liston-Patterson a contender? Winning the heavyweight title wasn't supposed to be so easy.

Some fighters make winning the title so easy. Dempsey v willard, liston v Patterson, tyson v berbick. While others like bowe and Holmes had battle s to get there hands on the belt.

Yes, you are right Fergy. That was one strange fight right from the beginning starting from Page getting a title shot after losing his last two previous fights than so many fouls by him going unpunished by the ref during it and finally him knocking out a curiously out of sorts Coetzee almost a minute after the bell should have rang to end the eighth round.
