Medical reports proved Liston had a shoulder injury

Duran's is much worse quit mid round because he was losing the fight

I never realized the scoring was even at the time of the stoppage. I guess Ali/Clay won his rounds much bigger but maybe Liston won a couple of the slower rounds. I agree with the theory that Liston gave a reasonable effort to knock out Ali and probably wasn`t in condition to go the distance or even late. He didn't want to get KOd. There was certainly no doubt who was in control that night.

No problem. I thought Liston was way behind on the cards as well then I checked. One judge had Liston up by 2 the other had Clay up by 2 and the other had it even.

When you hear stuff for years about people who don't know boxing but repeat what they hear and try to make it fact (I don't mean you) you might fall for what they are saying. That is why I always check out stuff myself.

I also read by people who know that Liston was so busy partying, cheating on his wife, and gambling that he didn't really train for Ali/Clay at all and he still did okay until he quit. A younger Liston who trained would of possibly beat Clay/Ali in my opinion.

Looking at the two fights I would say that Liston was certainly in more trouble than Duran at the time both quit. He had more damage. Duran may have been just as frustrated though.

Have you seen the fight, Ali was taking over. Liston had nothing for Ali and Sonny knew it, even though it was close on the scorecards at the time.

They displayed a picture of an injured shoulder the next day. Bert Sugar was joking with another writer about whose shoulder that really was. LOL

There was just a lot of stuff going on in Liston`s camp around that fight and both those fights.

The FBI fully investigated both Ali vs Liston fights and they confirmed Liston's medical reports state his shoulder was injured

Now liston's camp could have paid a dodgy doctor for a fake medical report but that's speculation

It`s possible. It had enough stink around it for the FBI to investigate. I think that the way the 2nd fight went also made the 1st fight look even worse in retrospect. It just cast a cloud over the series.

Cute story. I didn't ask your opinion. I told you based off the score card it was even. End of story.

My ignore list is filling up nicely with 2016 joiners.

Duran's No Mas it's hardly even debatable, for what Liston is remembered for his retiring from injury barely makes the list. The No Mas fight might just be what Duran is most famous for with casuals and more than likely ranks pretty high in boxing circles as well.

People are lost. The heavyweight champion is and always has been historically held to a higher standard. Liston sat on his stool and gave up the greatest prize in all of sports. A prize hwt champions of the past fought on through horrible injuries and harsh conditions and did not quit. There is no comparison....Liston quitting on his stool is far worse . Please note that Liston was throwing his jab frequently the round before he quit.

Duran. He would have lost to Leonard anyway, but still.

Have to say Duran here. It seems Liston in fact hurt his shoulder, even though I have a hard time believing it was debilitating.

In Duran's case we know there were no "stomach cramps". I think he just couldn't stand losing to Leonard. To quit like that after how he insulted an taunted Leonard both before and during The Brawl... Just a cowards way out.
