I see three scenarios A. It doesn't, politics get in the way and there's no unification with the current players B. Lewis Holyfield route. IE, a unification process between multiple champs and top fighters that works out almost like a tournament, and where the last unification bout both fighters come into it as relative equals. Not to say fully equal, in that bout, Holyfield was the favorite and in this one, the AJ Wlad winner would be the favorite. But, if Wilder and Parker/Fury fight and bring two belts together, they would be very live underdogs, just like Lewis. This is the best way, imo. C. Tyson like unification. Basically, one guy is annointed the next big thing, money flows through him, and everybody just waits in the quie to get the cash out fight, not risking any other unification. That makes it more like a coronation imo, and decreases competitiveness and interest. But, especially if AJ beats Wlad, I think this is probably how it will go. I think if AJ beats Wlad, C will happen. If Wlad wins, I think it could go any of the three ways
The winner of AJ/Wlad challenges Parker. The winner of that one challenges Wilder who wriggles and squirms for a year before taking the fight and losing. Right now I'd cheer if Wlad got it, but more realistically it would be AJ with Parker a live underdog. If Wilder unified through some freak hail mary punch I think I'd hang myself
Worst case scenario ... Wlad could win by a small margin in a tough fight and retires. The big unification fight Wilder has been waiting on vanishes. T. Fury starts making noise about coming back. Parker/H. Fury is controversial and one demands rematch. Ortiz gets injured. Briggs/Oquendo is a draw.
Won't happen, at least not anytime soon. Wilder's management want to milk their glass jawed fraud as long as possible before fighting a live body.
Unification in this day and age for any weightclass is the hardest thing to do, so I don't think we'll see an unification until there have been some drastic changes. It's the combination of politics, greed and cowardness that makes it so damn hard. You can have all the talent in the world, and never see more as one or two belts, because you just can't get the other beltholders in the ring with you. The more your talent shows, the harder it gets, due to obvious reasons. So I don't think we'll get an unification at HW any time soon. There's always at least one that "wants it, but only if the time and money is right", or "has bigger fish to fry".
Don't you think the money AJ brings would have the other champs lining up? Even a 30% purse could be more than they make in 4 title defenses (and how many HW champs can string together 4 successful defenses). It makes sense to do it for money, if you don't believe in yourself, and legacy if you do. But, I guess there might be a raw cowardice or stupidity factor involved.
The money might factor in indeed, but that money will only become available if they fight him in Greater Britain like Wlad does. Also, I expect Wlad to be the champ at the end of this month, which removes that British PPV money from the scene.
AJ becomes top dog after beating Wlad. Parker loses to AJ. Wilder sits it out, avoids any top opponents, but eventually loses. Once the WBC belt finally is free again- the man faces that belt holder and KOs him inside 5 rounds could be the unified champion. Then we have a unified champion- for as long as the belts do not want to start stripping the undisputed for political reasons.
