The Zale-Graziano bouts had multiple knockdowns, the winner got off the deck to win the first two, and their two fights match were Ring's FOTYs for 1946 and 1947. One or both were principles in Ring's first four FOTYs during the late 1940s.

Robinson and LaMotta were great rivals, but their series of bouts were not as honored at the time as the Zale-Graziano trilogy. Their televised final showdown in 1951 was more of a chess match, and Walcott-Charles III upended it as FOTY. (In 1950, Jake did win the FOTY for his title rematch with Dauthuille. Robby had to wait for his duet with Basilio to participate in fights of this distinction. To this day, Carmen's participation in five straight FOTYs remains a Ring record.)
