    Lets weigh them up.

ROy JONES- Jones started his pro career @ 160lbs ...on the night of the fight vs RUIZ he was 199lbs..thats a large disparity, he was all also fighting a guy who weighed a further 25 lbs more.

Yes Ruiz wasn't the most skilled, but the fact Jones skipped the cruisers straight into the Heavy versus "rough " fighter like Ruiz speaks volumes. Ontop of that Jones did that at the ripe old age of 35.
I can remember the general consensus among most, was it was a 50/50 match either Ruiz ate jones up, or it would be a typical RJ show. There was enough intigue before the match to make it a historic event, much like before TOney vs Jones. Ashame the wise asses dismiss the win after the EVENT, its so easy to predict retrospective.

Mayweather-Hoya. Mayweather started @ 130 lbs and fought @147 vs Hoya who weighed a further 7lbs more. People forget Hoya also started @ 130 lbs and was never destructive @ 147 or 154.
Mayweather also struggled vs Hoya. But Mayweather did say he treated him as a sparring partner...amzaing this little dude could do that. what a character!!

so there you have it 2 great fighters 2 Great Wins, whos was best.

Me personally Jones win had the WOW factor, he was 35 fighting a young prime Heavy, and he did it like he always did he made it look easy. Mayweather was fighting a guy(past his peak) who he was clear fav again and struggled.

    No idea....

But Jones started at 154, not 160. And Mayweather fought DLH at 154, not 147.

Lots of variables here. I think they are about equal when looked at objectively.

I believe it is Jones. Again, he did start at 154. No one would give him a title shot and he outgrew the weight. His hand speed at 154 and 160 is much faster then Mayweather.

good thread,:good i think mayweather as i believe ruiz posed far less of a threat to jones than what dlh did to mayweather, ruiz may have been in his prime(however good that was)but was never seen by any1 as a good fighter, just a awkward 1,where as dlh was still seen as a decent fighter still

Jones win and it is not even close. Only 1 other fighter in history has done what he did and that was like 100 years ago. People knock Ruiz all the time but the fact remains that he was a title holder and he had beaten a who's who of the top 10 heavyweights and had a style that would make anyone's night miserable. Not only did Jones win but he did it in impressive fashion he won every second of every round against a guy that outweighed him by 35 pounds.

A lot of people say how horrible Ruiz is, but I grew-up in the city of Chelsea with him and he use to be a hell of a boxer at lower weights. He abandoned all the boxing strongly due to getting knocked out by Tua. He had to change his style, which everyone finds boring, but remember that he has fought all comers and he indeed has some power. He dropped Holyfield, hurt Rachman, hurt Kirk Johnson, and others. So for Jones to beat Ruiz at that time was a big feat. I just wished Jones retired after that fight. Going back to LH hurt hime bad. Now Antonio Tarver knows what Jones went through after coming down so much weight.

Roy's win was better I think winning a HW title after starting at 154 is unreal.

Jones' win was more impressive because the opponent was so much bigger, but Mayweather's win was over a much better fighter.
