you also have to consider the fact that tyson is the only man to ever knock holmes out

I know. Tyson was simply a better fighter than Holmes.

Nah. Lewis beats both of them, though he'd have more problems with that young, brilliant version of tyson.

Homles was way past his prime by then. Keep in mind that there was no PEDs then;)

Old Holmes was ten times the fighter Rahman was.

Staying on topic, I'll pose this simple queston: did Holmes ever lose to a journeyman like Rahman while in his prime?

    End of discussion?:patsch

What an argument! And the thumbs up gives it that certain je ne sais quo it would have otherwise lacked. :smoke

A young Tyson would have killed a young Lewis. Watching Lewis fumble his way through defenses against guys like Frank Bruno or Tony Tucker is proof enough for me....Lewis was a late bloomer, pure and simple. When he was young he was a big athletic guy who had a great right hand and a shakey chin. Again, look at the Bruno fight. His jab was non-existent. He used it as a probing range-finder. It wasn't until he teamed up with Manny that he realized that he could use his left hand to actually dictate the pace of the fight and make things easy on himself.

Tyson, on the other hand, was a much more mature fighter much younger. He easily beat guys like Bonecrusher Smith, Larry Holmes and Tyrell Biggs while he was still in his early twenties. Sorry, but Lewis could not have done that. He may have won all those bouts, but it wouldn't have been easy for him.

Rahmon's KO of Lewis was better than both.

The thing that many may not realise is that Holmes had RETIRED long before the Tyson fight and came out of a lengthy retirement with NO tune up fights in order to take the Tyson fight. He was well past his effective best, but if he'd had time for a few warm-up fights he no doubt would have done better.

Holmes said himself in his book that he knew he had no hope of beating Tyson under those circumstances but that the money they offered him was so great that he couldn't say no.
