Take the race thing out of it because it was only a light-hearted joke and I didn't mean anything by it. I'm just really curious as to why Calzaghe - Lacey gets brought up so much around here for comparison? Especially considering how many thought Lacey was overrated at the time... I mean if that's how you all truly feel then why bring this ****ing fight up so much? This forum is known for being repetitive, but come on, move on now gentlemen.
I understand that Calzaghe's fight against Lacy isn't getting any newer, but it truly was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen in boxing. This was truly a masterclass against an undefeated fighter who didn't think he could lose a fight, much less get owned to the point of retirement. Most people on this forum were comparing Lacy to a little version of Tyson and felt that he could eventually compete at cruiser or even Heavyweight. Everyone underestimated Calzaghe on this forum. It was a consensus on this forum that Lacy would destroy Calzaghe. Most people forget that...this is why people still feel compelled to bring this fight up.
Good reply, but now that I've got it in your head wait a couple weeks and you'll start to notice how often it gets brought up and it'll start to annoy you too. Just wait and see my friend, just wait and see.
I think it's more annoying that people still bring up Lennox Lewis versus Vitali Klitschko...get over it already!! We will never know what would have happened in a rematch or how the fight would have ended had Vitali Klitschko been allowed to continue. This argument is truly annoying!!
I don't discredit Joe's win at all and I really think whereas Lacy was overrated before, he's actually underrated now because I don't believe he's ever been the same since the shoulder went south and the Calzaghe beating together. And he may've been born to burn out quick as it was. But, to me, the Hopkins fight was so one-sided as to be shocking. I wasn't one of the people saying Pavlik was going to win that fight because I thought Bernard's skills were going to take Kelly off guard, but the manner in which he did it, with Pavlik looking so absolutely helpless was huge. It was a masterclass with Bernard bringing the fight up to a certain level, rather than taking it down to a certain level. That was the shocking thing. And it was great. If he fought like that more in his career, I think people would be shocked at the results and what he could do.
