Which World champion fought the most awkward contenders during their reign?

I dont like to include charles and walcott as it was late in his carrer, think louis would have done far better....against them...you could make an argument that louis looked average against walcott and was 1-1, down 3 times but it was past his best.

I think Walcott of the 40s would have decisioned the rock...

 

yeah ricardo is a born fighter, like foreman like duran...natural instincts. Wladimir dosent have a bad bone in his body, this is why he jabs jabs jabs...imagine the spirit of duran or mayorga in a 6'6 245 pound body.

 

Nah, Walcott was always an inconsistent fighter. He was begging to be starched by The Rock IMO.

Schmeling, Conn, Sharkey, were all highly competent boxers. And, on film, I would say Carnera could fit in today's top five pretty well. Buddy Baer, less so.

Past his best, Louis fought Charles, one of the most technically sound boxer-punchers of all time, and Walcott, who, whilst short of 'great' by quite a stretch IMO, was one of the most fluid boxers of the era and a fine puncher as well.

 

How about Marco Antonio Barerra - Erik Morales, Manny Pacqaio, Juan Manuel Marquez, Prince Naseem, Amir Khan etc

BTW Morales himself also gets a a mention
and pretty much any of the top middleweights in the early to mid 90's also.
