I agree with your sentiments but is too simplistic. Take the trade magazine, its last three appointments could be described as young up and coming writers, but nevertheless they are writing previews, features, reports etc and doing a good job too.

And how would websites function if they were to attempt this model of only publishing vastly experienced writers who all demanded to be paid? How many articles on unknown prospects, under card fighters etc would get published?

One more point about some of these scribes who have served their time, so to speak, it doesnt excuse them ripping off quotes from internet writers and publishing them (without credit to the source) in their columns.

Joe Gallagher's collumn in the M.E.N news is a drag. It's so predictible. ''John Murray wants to rule the world''. ''John and Joe Murray want to be as feared as the Klitshcko's''. And of course, his rantings about Khan ducking Murray.

Vivek Wallace did come across as being really picky about Pac while overly praising Floyd.

Jim Watt when he's commentating can sometimes ignore one guy, even when he's landing cleanly, while overly praising the other. In the Clottey/Pac fight (I think) he was ignoring Clottey's punches.

Bunce annoys me sometimes when he rants, and also when he talks about fighters who are already millionaires turning down fights because they have to "put food on the table", when in reality it's not the difference between starving and eating, it's the difference between a £4 million mansion and a £6 million mansion. I still like you though Bunce, so don't get mad old man, don't get mad, cuz I always watched your shows and think you do a great job, but you're a straight forward guy, and I know you like people to be the same towards you.

Colin Hart, Comes across as an overly negative guy sometimes, and like he's gloating when he gets a result right. "I've been saying it forever, that Khan's chin is suspect, and look what happened". Yes Colin but you're not the only one. Everyone saw it early.

Being a Pacfan, I have to hate on Teddy Atlas.

Pirog, Marquez, ward and Pascal features was good. the rest was crap.

The top ten fighters to beat Mayweather was interesting but I found it real childish and basically just a big pop at mayweather by saying these guys would 'kick his butt' and seemingly enjoying in Mayweather getting hurt.

    Hes a ****.

    Agreed.

Although he can overplay the mental side of the sport.

    Agree

  9. Sorry Buncey, the 'skirting around the issue' comment was a wind up, respect for getting to the stage where you do what you love for a living.

I think an apology of sorts is needed.
I'm not knocking anybody who puts a few words anywhere about boxers - I'm against the instant superstars of the internet.
I admit that many internet writers have it tough.
In 1985 I would have written for the internet - I would also have done for 15 quid the South London divs for the Standard, the undercard at a Duff show for 30 quid for Harry at Boxing News and the results only from the Schoolboy finals for the Daily Telegraph for 60 quid (what an earner that was!).
Also, many of the arseholes of boxing writing in this thread deserve their position.
    Adios.

Bunce, it's all about experience. It helps you build a folio and get experience. If you build some contacts and get noticed, it makes it easier to look for paid work.

Journalism's a lot more demanding than it used to be in a lot of ways: content needs to be written for print, blogs, twitter, facebook and all sorts of channels that weren't there before.

If you're good enough and dedicated enough, you can use the internet experience to build up to paid work.

  14. I'm fairly certain that not many of the 'arseholes of boxing writing', as you so eloquently put it, care about their 'position', or aspire to anything higher. I know I don't! I've found a lot of Journalists to be quite touchy about their craft, as they assume that most people think that they could do a better job. In print media most people probably could do a better job! The majority of columnists are ****ing dire. Broadcast work is a lot harder. On a side point; Jim Bagg is a laugh. If you can't see that his egomania is part of an act/media persona then you're probably someone who thinks that Buncey's 'man of the people' act is 100% genuine. Vivek Wallace leaves a mountain the size of Olympus Mons, and a molehill the size of Everest, to be desired. Like my analogy he will take 1000 words to explain something when 25 will do.:rasta

The other thing about Vivek Wallace is that he never seems to give a clear cut opinion when a reader sends a question in to him. He waffles on a lot. He's not a bad writer at all but can be irritating.
