I mean, 3 years ago no one would have thought Pascal would be where he is. After his showing against Pittman, no one thought much of Pascal and while he gained some respect in losing to Froch, he was still known as a guy who "got outboxed by Carl ****ing froch" Then he moved up a whole new division and defeated the, at the time undefeated, Diaconu not once but twice. And once with one arm.. :good Out-boxes Chad Dawson, another highly regarded light heavyweight. and even though many feel he lost last night, he did manage to put Hopkins on the deck twice which hasn't been seen in 16 years.
he deserves respect for beating dawson, but last night he fought dirty and lost in his hometown, like nazeem richardson said: you gut him running in his hometown!
Agree the fact that he was able to drop Hopkins ..I really thought this would be a one side clinic by BHOPS and I was wrong ..A fight of the year ,some of that praise should go to Pascal..
Pascal respect?? **** that. I would have given him respect if he admitted he was outboxed or just said it was close NOT say I WON Clearly. *****.
I agree. But the words that came out of his mouth, aren't really worth talking about. Instead, it was his facial expressions :deal. It's this which spoke a thousand words, and that even he knew he didn't deserve to keep his belts.
People complaining of someone fighting a bit dirty versus Hopkins is like someone complaining that a John Ruiz opponent is holding too much. For the record, I feel Hopkins won in rounds. but the KD's worked against him
Hopkins looked like a young pup last night. Gauged his own stamina very well. Can't say the same for Pascal. However, in his defense, Marc Ramsay was always telling him "les jambes, les jambes, au centre, attaque, les jambes encore!" - which means in short that Pascal's plan was to circle and move around BHop before attacking and retreating, probably aiming at tiring him, but the exact opposite happened. Pascal couldn't move as freely and as comfortably in the 4th & on, as he could in the first 3 rounds. Had he kept the same pace and maintained a decent level of accuracy, he would have won the UD. But didn't. Close fight, I had it 114-112 BHop and could have made a case for 113-113 considering Pascal was the champ - BHop HAD TO BE the aggressor, so no surprise there re: last 6 rounds... especially after 2 X KD's. I still don't agree with Pascal when he says he clearly won the fight. Nope. Without trying to spark controversy or sidetrack discussions, this was Pascal's "Andrade I" two years after Bute got a stain on his resume.
A supposed young lion running away from an old man with no knockouts in six years and losing the last 8/9 rounds? No, I can't call a fighter like that the LHW champion of the world.
With all due respect, I disagree. Pascal didn't "outbox" Dawson, he did the exact same thing he did against Hopkins, the difference is Dawson waited too late to start applying the pressure that Hopkins did, and obviously the Dawson cut, cut the fight short. Pascal is garbage, and as I've said for the last month, I really don't understand what there is to like about this guy. He got "outworked" by Bernard Hopkins, in his hometown, he's not very good simple as that.
I don't know what your agenda is or if you just hate Hopkins, but Pascal didn't even try during the middle rounds. It was as if he knew that he already had the fight won on the judge's scorecards and knew that he wouldn't even walk by the end of the fight if he threw punches because he gasses so damn bad. That's the champion of the world? When you're trying to make a name for yourself against a legend? 8-4 Hopkins, maybe 9-3, close on points but clear.
