Well Sam getting frustrated and fatigued to the point of being stopped has never happened.

RJJ has been hit in every fight he's been in, no matter how slick he is...Peter won't connect much, and he won't need to.

People weren't saying Holy was shot until after...it is his signature win at HW if you go by the record book.

I personally consider his winning the WBA World Title to be his best HW moment, but it was taken away.

    ...and again, he's not done.

my favourite ever fighter by a long way, Toney is the man.

which other guys who fought their prime years at middle-super middle could go all the way through to heavy and stand toe to toe and at least hold their own with much bigger, more powerful guys? Could Hagler? Monzon? Hopkins? They sure didn't try. Toney did...that's why he's one of a kind and deserves to be ranked above those guys AT LEAST in the chin department.
Don't give me Jones with his 1 cautious fight against Ruiz then run back down. Peter woulda smoked him badly.

Jones could have stayed at heavy but instead chose to move back down because he felt that hw power was too dangerous for him. He even admitted in an interview that he doesn't belong in that division. There is no shame to that. Jones knew that he, unlike Toney, doesn't possess the physical tools to regularly compete at that weight and knew that he would have been caught by a big boy sooner rather than later. Whether his losses to Johnson and Traver were due to his dramatic drop weight or not changes little here.

I agree here, Holy was a top 10 hw in 2003 (ranked n°5 by the ring magazine) and Toney was considered the underdog in that fight.

Yep, Suge's right on point here. :good
I think the only other fighter who did something similar and was somewhat successfull at HW was Bob Fitzsimmons, but that was ages ago when there was less weight and size difference between the MW and the HW divisions... many fighters who fought at HW at that time would be LHWs today, f.ex. James Corbett was not a real HW. Toney is old-school, he could have fought and be competitive at any division at any era, anybody anywhere anytime, PERIOD!

Toney's past his best now, but he looked better in the Rahman rematch than in some time. He's still got something left. And he's got the best skills in the HW division HANDS DOWN! Time for him to shake off some more ring rust and have a last run at the titles, time's running out but I believe he still can get them belts, at least some of em

BTW thanks for the vid, I already saw it but it was cool to watch it again, Toney looked like a fat Pernell Whitaker in that ring, defensive wizardry at its best, great stuff!

I wish James the best, he's certainly unique in the HW division. I truly hope he'll know when to hang up the gloves (I'd guess 2 to 3 fights max). The man is a survivor.

I've previously written Lamon off, but you can tell by his comments in the video he was learning from James Toney...hopefully "Lights Out" can reverse the "McGirt Curse."

Toney should rematch Danny Batchelder. He received what most fans who saw the fight believe was a gift decision. This would be a good test for the ageing Toney. He was badly outclassed by Peter who outboxed him for at least 9 of the 12 rds. At this point the only road left for a gate keeper like Toney is start keeping the gate. Rematch Danny Batchelder then if he looks decent maybe Rahman again. For Toney to receive another title shot is bad for the sport. He simply is not good enough to be fighting for a belt and the knowledgeable fans know it.

You made a silmillarly foolish comment yesterday, which I responded to. Please learn to move a decate forward instead of backward.

...you are reaching. Granted, James has a habit of doing just enough to win sometimes against inferior opposition...but to say most thought he lost, is a fabrication.

How so...???...just because James only does enough to win against inferior competition, does that make it wise to keep him away from the superior competition...???...whom he exposes , in more exciting fights...??? Batchelder lost to James, and more recently lost to Lamon Brewster...the fight would do nothing but waste valuable time in James' career, which is probably why you would like to see it happen.

That's your perspective...however it's merely an opinion, another one is that James Toney brought out the best in Sam Peter...and that Peter learned a wealth of boxing knowledge from their 24 rounds together.

Toney cheated (TWICE) using steroids to enhance lean muscle mass and burn fat, could not provide any evidence otherwise, and didn't even try to provide evidence.

    That is basically admitting guilt.

And he did it twice. He really should still be banned from boxing in the United States.

Toney's last win was a long time ago over a nobody.

You always bring up how "fat" James is...right now, he is not very fat for a HW...he is very mobile in the ring at this point, as can be viewed from the sparring footage, and the recent Rahman rematch.

Your denial of these facts is disturbing...you can dislike him all you want but calling yourself a "guru" and not being able to recognize the great skill of Toney, is indicative of the disparity between your claims of knowledge and actual wisdom with regards to the sport.

...and know that many are awaiting the return of the best skilled fighter in the HW division, All Time Great James "Lights Out" Toney.
