I know the discussion has moved on, but for what it's worth I stand by that analogy, I think it's effectively the same thing. You rule superior fighters out of your rankings because you can't be arsed watching footage that requires scrutiny and interpretation, as compared to modern TV coverage. The logic is the same as people who can't be arsed reading the difficult archaic language of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, so overlook that art in favour of easier and more accessible 20th century literature, because it doesn't require the same scrutiny and interpretation. The logic is the same, no? It's just laziness (no offence, because I'm lazy about long movies, often can't be bothered with them even though I know they may be great films).

On the other hand Whitaker was much, much harder to outbox than Louis.

Its partly true that I can`t be arsed, I struggle for motivation if I`m not getting a satisfactory end product... & that end product for me is getting to see these great fighters fight, its annoying to me that I can`t get to see them... so its a touch of cant be arsedness mixed with a touch of bitterness probably.

I know what you mean though, sometimes it's difficult to enjoy, I often do so just out of a sense of duty really. Those guys don't deserve to be forgotten by real fans like us who come on here and talk about the thing they gave their lives to, you know?

But sometimes, you get to see evidence of some real fighters with real skills really going for it, and it makes it all worth it:

Now THAT is what you call 2 guys putting it ALL on the line, the quality was actually not to bad either, you can usually tell the speed by watching the referee, he was moving a fraction too fast but overall it was fairly good, you could tell what was happening & I was able to study the movements.

I think Whitaker would definitely give Duran a Hard time and given they fight 3 times, I couldn't tell you who would win, Sweet Pea was a great boxer, elite. Also each man has his own opinions.
