Firstly I would like to say that Ferdie Pacheco is a clueless, biased old *******... he tried his best to give Chavez every rd possible, he even gave him rds that were Whitaker rds... he kinda ruins the fight for me with his nonsense (if anyone knows were I can view this fight with different commentary it would be much appreciated) Secondly, I thought Whitaker was masterful in this fight, nothing more to add here. Lastly, my score card.... 1. Even 2. Chavez 3. Whitaker 4. Whitaker 5. Whitaker 6. Even 7. Whitaker 8. Whitaker 9. Chavez 10. Whitaker 11. Whitaker 12. Chavez 7-3-2 Whitaker (There were no 10-8 rds) Even Pacheco eventually had Whitaker winning the fight, Chavez never won any clear rds in the entire fight & Whitaker did a paint job on him in rds 3, 7 & 8 & won a few more rds quite clearly as well (& Im a big JCC fan) Anyone have this NOT a Whitaker win ?
I thought it was closer than that, 7-5 but Whitaker won his rounds much clearer. Chavez bodywork in this fight is sometimes a bit overlooked. It should have been a win for Whitaker no doubt but it was not as bad of a robbery as his first fight with Ramirez.
Get the ESPN version if you want to hear Al Bernstein dropping an 118-110 (little wide imo). I had it 9-3 Whitaker, but I think anything up to 7-5 is justifiable. There's a few close rounds that could have gone Chavez's way here, but he didn't draw this fight, nor win it of course.
I agree, the 1st Ramirez fight was worse, no way Whitaker lost that fight... no way he lost or even drew the Chavez fight either but JCC did better than Ramirez for sure, Pea beat both tho.
I have always been in the vast majority, and scored the fight a draw! I don't remember my card and have not scored it in over a year, but I know I have posted it in previous threads 2-4 years ago on here...but I am not going to search for it. I like both guys but am not a major phan of either, so don't feel that I am biased one way or the other. Feel free to disagree (I know 90% or more on here will)....I think the commentators were way biased in favor of Whitaker.
Most of the people I have met who think Chavez won are just bitter Mexicans. 8-4 or 9-3 Whitaker IMO. Pretty clear win.
I thought Chavez was robbed personally. At the end of a long, hot, soggy day,Chavez was the aggressor, and that's all that matters when deciding who won a fight. He came to fight and Sweet Poo didn't.Hard to score a fight to a guy who's running, huh?
Ring generalship boils down to who's the bull? I say the matador is the one who deserves the most credit. Whoever controls the pace is the winner, whether it's on the back or front foot is irrelevant...
my copy of this fight is with english commentary. reg gutteridge and barry mcguigan. from memory mcguigan only gave it to whitaker by 1 pt. 116-115. i agree with u that whitaker was a fairly wide winner. :bbb
