I want to stress this so I make it clear.

I am not an Oscar De La Hoya fan. The only Hoya fights I have seen live are his fights with Mayweather Jr and Steve Forbes. I saw the highlights of his fight with Mayorga, but other than that, I have only seen his fights on youtube. I have no obligation to stick up for Oscar in any arguement. He was at least an A level fighter in his prime. I watched his fights with Mosley 2 and Tito on youtube, and I thought he narrowly won both fights. Only an A level fighter could be so competitive with those fighters.

I'll say it again so it filters. I am NOT a fan of Oscar De La Hoya. I just tell it like it is.

I agree that Chavez was past his best when he fought Whitaker. However I think the match would have been the same regaurdless of weight. Yes Chavez was an outstanding lightweight and yes his performance against Edwin Risrio was one of the best of all time. Whitaker was faster at 135 than Chavez was and he had decent power at that weight.

I'm not sure why I'm arguing with someone who I'm not convinced ever saw the fight in question.

I said he was B+ in the grand scheme of things, meaning in comparison to the ATG's. Even that is stretching it to be honest. He's certainly nowhere near A+, as you claimed.

He is closer to an A level fighter than he is a B+ fighter.

Do you agree that Pernell Whitaker was wrong in his assessment of a prime De La Hoya?

I disagree, that would mean you basically consider him second tier among ATG's. No way.

Not really. What did he say that was incorrect?
