It all comes down to who controls the range and who imposes their style on the other. On any given night it could be different, just like Leonard 1 and 2. I lean towards Whitaker's movement and jab winning out but if Duran keeps finding his way to mid range its his fight. I think any arguments on this 1 are pretty fruitless
Haha, well i can't really complain, as you can see i spell the 'L' word, as luv, but that's because it's no word for a man to be spelling properly. I wish we could see all of Duran's fights though. Maybe we'd know more then,
I feel we've seen all of his 'best' 135lb performances though. From the early windmilling version that took out ten-stone Koyabashi to the more patient man that annihilated Guts Ishimatsu. And of course the mix of both that beat Ken Buchanan from pillar to post.
So where Tito, Oscar and Vasquez but Pea hung with them when he was WAY past prime and out of his best weight. You still think the strength issue is too big for Pea to overcome in his prime at his best weight? I don't disagree with you, just seing if you've taken these factors into account. I think Duran close UD myself (only becasue I have too, I personally think over 12 it would be a draw)
Ok i've been reading and i thinks this need a little bit more explanation, just watching the Duran - De jesus III fight and Duran continually slips and counters De jesus's punches. Whitaker stands and trades a fair amount at Lightweight and he is a sharp puncher, but there is NO WAY he gets Durans respect. Whitaker jabs Duran slips to the side and would come back with that lead right hand. To say Duran would be worried about Whitakers punch when he non stopped attacked Leonard for 15 rounds as well as his mauling of buchanan, lampkin palamino etc shows that Whitaker isnt going to knock Duran down. So in the end although whitaker might sharp shoot for the first 6 rounds Durans physical presence and power would wear Whitaker down. If Whitaker tries to clinch he gets mauled, if he low blows he gets hammered low, there would be no hiding place. So Duran by late KO or UD 10 rounds to 5
Although Duran was fantastic by that point I would say DeJesus was slipping. The 2nd fight is a better indication of Duran and fairly similar to the 3rd (bar the 1st round KD) Good explanation but I can't see Pea getting stopped. he was made of iron.
This is getting embarrassing now. We made a thread called Prime Pernell Whitaker, in which we discuss objectively how the fight might unfold. I ultimately picked Duran by the way, as did a lot of people, as you can see in this thread also. But we debate properly here, your style of debating is embarrassing Mancoboxing. Knock it on the head please will you.
