Let's be honest here. There's one important factor that we're overlooking here... Pernell Whitaker never fought anybody with the unique skillset and abilities that Roberto Duran possessed - and vice versa. Trying to judge their opposition as a means by which to determine what they'd do against each other is like comparing Jack Johnson to Mike Tyson. The differences are so unique between the two of them, that the normal means by which to judge these kind of hypothetical's is especially different.

Duran and Whitaker were so beyond their opposition that we don't know what would happen once faced with an opponent like this thread inquires about.

So, the idea that we can clearly determine who would probably win is highly suspect - so far as making some kind of definitive statement. These guys are that good at forcing their opposition to fight their kind of fight.

You just know in a thread like this that whenever the thread starter says he doesn't want posts and is for strictly VOTING, that he's going to get ignored.

Also, Duran was dominating this thread until SS posted the pics of the magazine covers, i ask you, WAS THE FIX IN?!

    Hahahaha

The way I feel about this fight is this - Duran is the aggressor. Duran is pressing the fight. Duran is the one one making a show of aggression. Aggression is scored by judges in the real world. We might all say on the forum, "oh, well, no style advantage exsists because Whitaker throws as many punches going backwards as Duran does coming forwards", or whatever, but the fact is most of the really close rounds are going to go to Duran on most of the judges cards. Whitaker would have to win the fight pretty clean to get the nod IMO. That's not impossible but I don't think the odds favour it. We all know that the skilsets of the two men are very close that's why the protracted argument.

But for me the likelyhood is that Duran gets the nod in a close one, and lots of people feel angry about it and others feel it was spot on.

So you're saying Whitaker's going to get robbed?

We're going to fall out mate! (kidding)

I say we boycott these two fighters even getting mentioned for a month.

No, not at all, i'm saying that referees score aggression when they're lost as to who won a round. If a round is really close they will tend to score it for the guy "making the fight" (a misnomer here, but one that is understandable) and that will be Duran, on the face of it. Given that the fight is likely to be very close, I think that this could almost be a defining factor.

    Whitaker by decision.

I would like to add that Whitaker was far from featherfisted at 135. He had respectable power there. I remember his knockdown of Mayweather (right hook straight left?) was quite hard. Also, the term featherfisted is bull**** anyway. Any professional boxer hits hard. Just because he can't knock Duran out doesn't mean he can't get his respect, especially with the accuracy and countering ability he brings to the table.

What is this? Duran at his rampant lightweight best never gave a flying **** about what his oponnents had or could dish out & the only thinking Duran would be doing was how 2 inflict as much hurt as possible. Duran's psychi was "Kill or be Killed" he would never in a million years showed one ounce or cared as 2 what Whitaker had or could deliver, it just was'nt in his make up:good

He would have known what was in front ov him just as he knew what was in front ov him in Montreal & he'd just do what ever it took, just as he did 2 Leonard in Montreal:smoke

Lets just put it this way, Whitaker would never be the same fighter again win or lose after 15 rounds with Duran, i.e Meldrick Taylor out boxes Chavez & ends the fight smashed up & never fully the same fighter again.

Yes. Not Chavez though as there would be no point, Leonard would stop Chavez at Welter with ease IMO.

I think msot would agree that Pea was not at his best at 147 and leonard would beat him. Some said stoppage, but I gave him the benefit over 12:good

Leonard would be significantly bigger than both, not to mention the great skills he had himself. He beats both quite comfortably imo, but to answer your question NO its never been made.
