Just exactly what it says on the tin here.

Pernell Whitaker. Roy Jones Jr. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Who was the most effective/impressive fighter h2h in their prime?

Please explain your choice, the more detailed the better :good

I chose Roy Jones, Then Id closely follow that by Whitaker with Mayweather being last because the 1st 2 guys were not afraid to fight the best that was around at their time, regardless if they won or lost.

Jones is a legend and always will be and his highlight reel is very impressive...
whitaker was the man back in the day, you couldn't hit the guy.
Mayweather has all the skills and talent in the world but avoids all the top WW's so that is why he is last.

i went with jones, with whitaker second!

only reason for this is because jones was such a great counter-offensive fighter with his relexes and power that he seemed unbeatable in his prime!

whitaker had the best defensive ability i've seen, and as impressive as that obviously is jones gets the nod for his seemingly unstoppable ability in his prime!

    mayweather a very distant 3rd!

i went with impressive when voting, although if it were just how effective the fighters are, mayweather would certainly figure stronger!but whitaker would prob take the effective vote....

    Whitaker
    Jones
    Mayweather

Whitaker has the better resume and is the better H2H fighter IMO, you could make a case for Jones but I don't see How you could for Floyd.

    Whitaker over Jones, just though.

Almost impossible to hit, very quick and skilled, with a good chin to back him up if he ever did get hit flush, which was very rarely. Good make even the best of fighters look silly, even when past his best, example the De La Hoya fight.

Roy seems to be running away with this. It should be much closer between him and Pea. Of course the one's who voted Floyd have yet to post a reason why.

I was not commenting on your answer mate, just purely paying tribute to the greatest comic genius of our age!!

My own answer is Whitaker, Jones 2nd, Mayweather 3rd.

In fact, I'm going to be a bit of a **** since it's my thread and say that I think Whitaker was the most effective whilst Jones was the most impressive.

Your going far over the top on reason's for people picking floyd, seeing as the thread is based on skills base in there primes and i can't see any major problem with someone picking the mayweather at 130, but only 130 to be fair, mayweather at super feather was a fantastic fighter, absolutly top draw h2h and skills wise, personally i rate jones and whitaker higher but its not as clear cut as you make out

I chose Whitaker because of resume, they are all pretty close in terms of talent/flashiness..

But Id say Mayweather falls third.

    1. Jones Jr
    2. Whitaker
    .
    .
    3. Mayweather Jr (130lb Mayweather was a bit closer)

Whitaker ever so slightly over Jones,

Floyd a bit off from them, which is saying something because at 130 Mayweather was an amazing fighter.
