I had Oscar winning, and scored it a draw once. Definately not a robbery... but a close fight.

    Tito-DLH..now that's a robbery.

You can have the same "style" and not be as good at it. By "get it right" you are simply saying they are not as good at it.

Spinks does model himself after Whitaker, as does Malagnagi. Doesnt mean they are as goos at it though.

Defensi in Bball is boring, defense in football is fun as hell IMO. Nothing like the Steelers and Ravens defense beating up on each others offense.

No, by get it right I mean they were unable to copy it due to their own limitations. Perhaps not being as good at it is DUE to them being unable to copy it correctly.

Spinks can model himself after whatever he chooses. But he doesn't fight like Whitaker. His defense is almost soley based on footspeed and he doesn't try to fight off the back foot. He simply tries to get away. Whitaker almost never did that. Whitaker's style also allowed him to stay defensive and offensive at the same time. Spinks does not.

Granted, Pernell did stand in the pocket more than Spinks. . . but when he was with the bigger puncher he did get on his bicycle as well. Their styles are not identical, but there are a lot of similarities.

JLC modeled himself after JCC, just not as good of course. Maybe didnt go to the body exactly as much as JCC but still very similar.

Castillo is one of the few who DID get it right. But that was due to being a sparring partner most likely and actually getting the nuances down from being in the ring with Chavez often.

I disagree about Whitaker being on the bicycle. In our discussions, I have noticed you consider moving backwards or fighting off your backfoot as running. This is not running. Spinks fighting Taylor is running. What Mayweather did against Baldomir in the last half of their fight is running. What Mayweather did against DLH was box.

Fraud ran from Baldomir for 12 rounds.

Fraud ran from DLH for a few rounds, to be fair he stood in much more with DLH than he did with Baldy.

Ill admit Pernell did not run in every fight (Hurtado comes to mind), but against the bigger punchers he did run. This is whats dissapointing to me about these guys, they can stand and fight and give the fans the action we want but they choose not to. I guess its their asses on the line not mine, but there are other boxers who give fans what we want - they usually get paid more.

These Defense first boxers/runners need to stop complaining about not getting paid the same as "fighters". Raheem's sorry whinnig arse for example.

Well then we disagree. Mayweather didn't run from Baldomir for 12 rounds. Far from it. And Whitaker certainly didn't.

And Mayweather is paid huge now isn't he? Either way, they shouldn't stand and fight when it gives the other guy the advantage. The fans be damned, you do what's best for you when you're in the ring.

Fighting off the backfoot is not running.

I dont understand your outlook on this.

You claim Pernell ran vs Chavez, yet he outlanded him by a WIDE margin...even outlanding him in POWER PUNCHES!

Fighting off of your back foot using the jab and beating the opponent to the punch is in no way running.

If a fighter with an obvious lack of power, were to stand in the pocket and trade with bigger, stronger guys....how many fights would that fighter win? That logic doesnt make any sense.

And as for the "what the fans want to see" train of thought....

I found Pernell's defensive style to be amazing....as did many, many others. He was more exciting to me than most knockout artists ever have been (ever see his highlight vid on youtube? Its nothing but exciting)....and this wasnt JUST from his defense, but from the fact that his offense was near perfect as well (if he had power...it just wouldnt be fair).

Again, he was blessed with that defense...but is also considered to have one of the top jabs in the history of the sport. He also attacked from just about every angle. Had a TREMENDOUS body attack. He also regularly threw 1000+ punches a fight.

This is not the bio of a "runner".

And putting the likes of Spinks, Paulie, Dirrell, etc. in the same breath as a fighter like Pernell is an insult to the sport.

Here is the HL vid I referred to....figured Id help to show ya what a RUNNER DOESNT LOOK LIKE!!!

Pernell didn't want to fight and when he tried to, he threw a punch then held.

Pernell thought that by clowning around he was going to win.

    ODLH won.

Yet he outworked and outlanded Oscar? How did he do that throwing one punch and holding?

    :huh
