There are certain mythical match-ups you're sure of, and then there are those you're certain of... and then there is this one. If Whitaker and Mayweather fought 100 times, I feel absolutely ultra-confident that Whitaker would win 100 times out of 100 at whatever weight they fought at, from light to light-middle. He was just all wrong for Floyd. I am a fan of both guys' skills, but seriously, no way Floyd beats Pea, no way in hell.
If it's the same judges that were at the Whitaker/Chavez fight then anything could happen - otherwise I tend to agree. Mayweather's best weight wasn't at 140, and the elusiveness of Pea would without a doubt cause Mayweather fits.
Nope. Highly technical affairs like this one are usually the best for me. Some of my favorite WW fights include Leonard/Benitez and Hearns/Benitez despite the methodical pace and lack of clean blows landed(in the latter anyway).
This one comes up all the time. The consensus is Whitaker wins, because it is a very obvious styles matchup and there area very few areas Mayweather has an advantage in.
Most areas where Floyd excels, Pea has him beat. Not only that, but stylistically, being a southpaw with a constant, accurate jab, he would make it difficult for Floyd to find any kind of rhythm, as Floyd has trouble with both of the above qualities. Not only that, but while Floyd typically takes a few rounds to figure his opponent out, Pea started right out of the gate, so even if Floyd were somehow able to even up the battle at some point, Pea's early lead would hold him to the decision comfortably. I see it as a clear call.
Nope. Pea was a brutal fighter when he wanted to be and PBF wanted to fight, Pea would say 'bring it on'. He is the holder of some SAVAGE stoppages. He's better than Floyd in EVERY department.
No he doesn't. Pernell had the better jab by far, the southpaw stance (which gives Floyd trouble, according to Floyd himself), the higher workrate, and was the better in-fighter. What edges does Floyd have? If you want to claim he holds a slight edge in power, do so, but it's not enough of an edge to make any kind of difference in the matchup. In actuality, Pea was the one with the more devastating knockouts when he put his body into his punches.
I wouldn't quite say that, whitaker clearly has the better jab, higher workrate and put his combos together better, personally i think floyd was slightly more accurate, and a great straight right which is a good weapon to counter the southpaw jab with and slightly more power I used to pick floyd in this fight, i now slightly head towards pea, the reason for this is the southpaw jab is very difficult for floyd, he needs to counter it often and take that weapon way from whitaker a little bit, its closer than most think in my opinion though
