I haven't seen this fight in ages and when I did back in the 90's, was rather intoxicated as I was still in my early 20's. But looking back I'm wondering if Sweet pea was robbed. Whitaker landed 232 of 582 punches to 191 of 556 for De La Hoya. Pernell also scored a flash knockdown. Apparently 14 news writers had it for Whitaker while 11 had for Oscar. Pernell was a career victim of robberies.

The fight was in 1997, yea very very long time ago, but in my opinion De la Hoya deserved the victory, it was a pretty good scrap...

If anyone got robbed a lot in their career it was Oscar De LA Hoya:deal, he beat Trinidad but was ripped off, same with Mosley 2, and the Mayweather fight which was very close, and many thought he should have won...

Being a ultra rich arrogant pretty boy didn't help his cause, guess that's why so many people were elated when Paq whipped him....
