How many fighters with 15 fights or so have fought a fighter with as much experience as Ramirez had at the time, in over a hundred bouts?

    That alone is impressive.

    So, who?

Jimmy Young with 11 fights behind him going against 44 fight veteran Earnie Shaver's comes to mind as well.

A amateur that far into his career going against an experienced ATG Heavyweight puncher like Shaver's?

    Smart.

    Pernell Whitaker?

Leon Spinks after 7 pro fights beat a shot Ali who had nearly 60.

Ray Robinson had 20 pro fights and was a pro for less than a year when he beat lightweight champ Sammy Angott in a non-title bout. Ray also beat a journeyman named Norment Quarles (100+ pro fights) in his 5th pro fight.

Another good one is seven fight pro Leon Spink's going against Ali.

You could look at it as 20 years of experience there or as them trying to take advantage of Ali being at the end of his career.

The Holmes fight hadn't happened yet so I'd imagine it was considered extremely risky for Spink's. The Ali myth was still alive and well.

Chan-Hee Park took the Flyweight crown from a faded Miguel Canto in his 11th pro fight, and it was Canto's 15th defense of his crown, had around 60 fights by this point.

In his 8th fight, Nobuo Nashiro won the WBA Super Flyweight belt off of Martin Castillo, who was in his 32nd fight. Also, Povetkin only had 13 fights going into fight Chris Byrd, who had 44.

Park was extremely talented. That fight with Canto is pretty insane stuff technically.

A dodgy chin and lack of dedication let him down sadly.

Saensak Muangsurin of Thailand winning the WBC Light Welterweight Title in only his THIRD pro fight against Perico Fernandez, who was 34-5. He would defend the title eight times.

Sven Ottke took on Charles Brewer in his 13th pro fight for the IBF world title. Brewer was 32-5 then.

    Impressive indeed.

I can't help but to think of Pedromo who went 1-0-0 before stepping up against a prime... Julio Cesar Chavez with 77-0-0.
Obviously, he never fought ever again after that.

Maskaev started his career by fighting undefeated Alex Miroshnichenko (21-0). Before he had 15 fights he fought also McCall and Tua.

Found another good one: Fidel LaBarba, fresh out of high school, beat Frankie Genaro in only his 11th fight for the vacant Flyweight title. Genaro was 47-5-3 at the time and riding a nice win streak into the fight. Also interesting is that he did that after 3 of his LaBarba's first 5 professional fights consisted of a trilogy against ATG Jimmy McLarnin.

Rafael Marquez's pro debut was against former WBC bantamweight champ Victor Rabanales, who had 55 pro fights. Marquez lost in 8.

Apparently Marquez's team thought it was an exhbition, but it turned out to be a pro fight.

    Good managing job there, Nacho.
