The problem with that fight is DLH should have won and because Sweet Pea made it such a close fight many feel he deserved it but DLH did enough to get a draw. I agree with what your saying though, Whitaker made DLH look stupid for alot of the fight which was amazing considering how good DLH was at the time. Its funny though how DLH was given the benefit of the doubt against Sweet Pea and Quartey (who I think beat him by a point despite the knockdown) but later was robbed against Trinidad and in Mosley II. Then again he also lost against Sturm by my scoring, its strange how so many of DLH's fights had strange decisions either for or against him. Still I digress this is about Whitaker not De la Hoya.

dominance at best weight - check
    multi-weight champ - check
lots of defences in more than one division - check
'unbeaten' till way past prime - check
    good names - check
good number of ranked opponents - check

who's done more in forty or so fights?

It always amazes me when people talk about resume, disregarding their own opinion on a fight they've watched, then pine over what would've been someone's record, had a fight happened EXACTLY as it did but the official verdict were different.

I love him. Soo much fun to watch and an excellent resume. It´s comparable to Leonard´s. Ray that is. Ray has better top wins, Whitaker a bit more depth afterwards. Both lack the overall depth and longevity - I consider this not only beeing number of years but also number of fights, even fillfer fights take something out of you. Has a solid argument for Top20. Rivals Pacquiao for the best fighter of the last 25 years spot.

I don't understand that either. For me the Chavez fight is a W in Pea's record. Crooked judges don't change that.

Considering only non-active fighters, Whitaker's record is probably the best since Leonard, I'd say. Jones (if he is truly retired) may have a word in edge-wise also.

I think there is a gap between Leonard, Pea, Pac and then Jones, Hopkins and PBF.

I don't rank PBF and Pac since they're still active, as for Jones he's in the discussion with Pea IMO considering the impressive wins he has. The gap is rather between Hopkins and Whitaker, Leonard, Jones as I see it.

I love list. Maybe some of my picks can help you decide.

Here is mine (As of now):

    Champ: SUGAR RAY ROBINSON
    1. HARRY GREB
    2. EZZARD CHARLES
    3. MUHAMMAD ALI
    4. SUGAR RAY LEONARD
    5. BENNY LEONARD
    6. ROBERTO DURAN
    7. SAM LANGFORD
    8. WILLIE PEP
    9. SANDY SADDLER

Pernell has a great resume. He top fighters without problem and competed with top fighter at a late stage in his career. Probably did not lose a fight until Trindad and he fought Trindad hard.

He has a very strong resume.
He should have been geven the decisions over Jose Luis Ramirez and Julio Cesar Chavez. While I can't say with the same conviction the Oscar De La Hoya was at the very least closer than the scores indacated if not another fight that shoiuld have been awarded to Prenell Whitaker.
