I would love to have a go at this. Im 35 and run a boxercise class (more for cardio than proper technique). How long would it take to train for a fight (my fitness is good but technique needs major improving ie. footwork)? How much would it cost ? Do they still run these events ?

I live in Worthing (west sussex).

Apologies if this has been done already but the search option is not working for me.

There is plenty of white collar events going around, dunno about your area, but I'm sure you can find some by doing a google search. White collar boxing is a great way for people who are not ABA level to compete in boxing and it is boxing just the same, so I don't really get the knitting comparrisons.

If you run a boxcersise class my guess is that the fitness is there, you may need to practice your skills in the ring as I believe you don't actually get hit at boxcersise. The people who are going to fight will probably be around your level so I reckon your good to go.
