White : Henderson Egdar 2 is the target , not Pettis !!

    Anthony Pettis (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will step aside once again.

    UFC president Dana White today announced via Twitter that former UFC champ Frankie Edgar (14-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) will get his wish and take a second shot at the man that took his belt in February, Benson Henderson (16-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC).

    A date for the matchup has yet to be planned, but White said the fight will take place "this summer."

    Henderson earned a unanimous-decision win over Edgar in the main event of February's UFC 144 event in Japan and was named the UFC lightweight champion.

    Following a UFC 144 knockout of Joe Lauzon, Pettis had been declared the likely next contender, and White said he was going to encourage Edgar to drop to 145 pounds and face featherweight champ Jose Aldo. However, Edgar remained firm in his stance that he deserved a rematch, especially after granting rematches to Gray Maynard and B.J. Penn during his own title run.

    White met with Edgar today, and it appears "The Answer" finally got his way.

    "Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson rematch will be this summer," White wrote via Twitter.

    Pettis had been expected to fight for the UFC belt when he came to the promotion as part of the shuttering of World Extreme Cagefighting. However, Edgar's UFC 125 draw with Gray Maynard meant Pettis instead took on Clay Guida, who earned a unanimous-decision win over "Showtime."

    Pettis has since earned wins over Jeremy Stephens and Lauzon, but he'll now need at least one more fight before challenging for the belt.

    Meanwhile, May's UFC on FOX 3 main-event bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller has been declared a No. 1 contender fight, so the winner should be in line for the victor of Henderson vs. Edgar II.

    Should be pretty clear what to do. Have Henderson and Edgar II in August and have Pettis fight the Diaz-Miller winner. You have no bitching if you do it this way. Ben and Frankie hopefully can settle it with a clear winner in the rematch, Pettis and his fans cant ***** about having to sit aside while Miller or Diaz get the title shot and same with Miller or Diaz they cant ***** either. Let everyone ****ing fight each other.

    :goodExactly. Whoever comes out on top of the Pettis v Diaz/Miller match is the true Number 1 contender. As it is, I feel all 3 guys have lost too recently for their to be a stand out contender.

    It's tough but fair, UFC ranks are stacked with talent.

    Edgar and Bendo still have a case for being on top, Pettis and (Millar/Diaz) will get have the opportunity once there is a clear champion.

    Ive got to be honest , im a little suprised here , Henderson Pettis 2 has an extrordinary PR angle and i fully expected the UFC to take full advantage of that

    Edgar , IMO was soundly beaten , therefore i dont think an immediate rematch is necessary , that said , i can see where the UFC are coming from , Edgar just back to backed Penn and Maynard twice for there organisation , so a little give and take i suppose

    Looking at a couple of the older bread , Kenny Florian is on the mend and should be back sometime soon , Gray Maynard should be available some time soon , therefore why dont the UFC give either of them to Pettis

    Edgar deserves the re-match solely on him giving re-matches, I honestly dont think he deserves a re-match based on the fight, it will be another decent fight but I think Henderson won quite handily and will do the same again and retain the title.

    Not surprised...and I now Guida lost is last fight but for me a rematch against Pettis is necessairy

    I think it is fair given Edgar gave 2 rematches. This fight was scoring vs damage.

    155 is stacked but alot of guys need to set themself apart like Benson did.

    Pettis needs another win. Miller vs Diaz should provide some clarity. Guida hasn't got back into the mix yet. Cerrone is there. Someone needs to steal the show like Pettis did in his last fight.

    Pretty obvious that Pettis should fight the winner of Diaz-Miller but supposedly they've already earned a shot by winning that...then again, Joe Rogan foolishly said Pettis had earned a shot at a title held by Ben Henderson, and that's bull**** so why not have this fight?

    Rant over. And Henderson will beat Frankie convincingly (again) and the division can move on to fresh challengers.

    Then we see if Bendo can keep hold of the belt :D This division is stacked, a decent run in it as champ pretty much guarantees ATG status. Let's see if the Hendo is rubbery enough to keep surviving the perilous situations his aggressiveness often gets him in as he runs the gauntlet of dangerous mo'fo's!

    Pettis has had two wins off a loss.

    He doesn't deserve the title just for showing up.

    The winner of Miller and Diaz deserves the first shot after the rematch for that matter.

    Yeah...but I think Miller is 1-1 in is last 2 fight...so....
