Bums don't have the run they have and stay in the UFC for how long they both respectively have. What they are is flawed fighters, that doesn't make them bums. I just think it's disrespectful to give **** to guys who fight with everything (Leben at least, I do not understand the hatred this guy gets other than because he knocked out Wanderlei) and at short notice. You've got to respect that. Calling them a bum is just totally pissing on their careers and it's really not fair to at all.

Why on earth would i give Leben ANY respect for KO'ing an ATG like Wandy? Seriously is that a joke? Right now a stiff breeze could put Wandy to sleep. That victory means nothing. What Leben and Sonnen represent is everything that's the gutter mentality i hate about the UFC.
Put them in PRIDE 5 years ago and both men would have been carrying spit buckets. Like i said their bums. Neither man deserves ANY respect from me. Especially not a lying steroid fraud cheat like Sonnen. Or Leben who is also routinely in trouble with the law.

Where did I say give him respect for knocking out Wanderlei. I meant give him respect overall. Leben has balls and had the courage to step up and take on Akiyama at what, three weeks notice? I mean I know Akiyama isn't a killer in the UFC but that's a brave move, and the ****er always comes to fight. Obviously Wanderlei is on the slide, that just seems to be the only reason I can think of why someone would dislike Chris Leben and call him a bum.

And his personal life is nothing to do with his fighting career, I'm not gonna judge or hate someone because they have law problems. It's not like he's killed anyone, then you'd have a point. And the whole "if they were around in the Pride days, they'd be nothing" argument is really sad. It's bad enough when people talk about different era's of boxing, but it's even worse when people talk about the golden age of Pride when it was 10 years ago. Remind me again, what happened to all these "great" Pride fighters? Every ****ing one of them have had their asses handed to them, Rampage is the only one who hasn't been murdered in the Octagon yet. I'm not dissing Pride or saying the fighters were ****, but I'm not gonna be blinded by nostalgia and dismiss good fighters just because they weren't around then, a lot of guys weren't. If you believe they're bums, then fair enough, I just think they're flawed fighters and "bums" don't have the names they do on their record and stay in the UFC, I don't care what stage the fighters are in their careers.

Here's what Wanderlei does in his prime. Wanderlei stares a guy in the eyes and goes head to head with them, 90% destroying them. Wanderlei had been knocked out in his prime and he wasn't exactly versatile. He was a one dimensional berserker, and I love him for it, but Leben is just the same, except he wasn't around then. Leben comes to fight, has an iron chin, and great power. To me, many guys who elect to trade with Leben and Wanderlei are going down, that's their style, they're fighters. So why is Wanderlei this ATG amazing fighter who people love because of what he does yet Leben is a bum? I don't get it. Fair enough, Wanderlei's record far surpasses Leben's, but I'm talking about how they fight and the respect they should get for it, and the fact that they're still relevant (well, Leben is anyway)

I'm not even gonna bother with the Sonnen argument because there's no point trying to argue in his favour, I might as well try to kick water uphill.

This is all meaningless blurb dude. It's my opinion. You're going to have to deal with it.

"It's my opinion", hm... I sure didn't expect that to be the response. That's fine man, keep calling fighters bums and that they couldn't carry the real fighters' jockstraps in Pride or whatever, I just have a bit of respect for Sonnen and Leben for standing up and wanting to fight. I have a bit of respect for guys that go out and put on a show.

Because that's exactly what it is. I don't see why you feel it necessary to drag this out any more than what it is. We have a difference of opinion. It's not any more complicated than that. You have respect for Sonnen and Leben. I do not. End of story. End of discussion.

It's a forum, people tend to respond to posts. I feel what you said was insulting towards the fighters. Takes two to tango, dude.

And you're right about the steroid cheats and liars, it's unacceptable to have these type of athletes in combat sports.

By the way, I loved Sugar Shane's performance against Oscar De La Hoya. And his testimonial. Great stuff.

Well simply cuz Wandy was better at it he got a killer aura and got the belt which Leben has yet to achieve.
Record is where the most respect lies

Wand had his own brutal, relentless and bloodthirsty style. He was able to impose his will on extremely talented grapplers and absolutely wreck guys that were considerably larger framed than himself. As brutal as he was, he was always taking advantage of opportunities and therefore thinking a step ahead.

We always knew he had a little bit of a smaller frame. In UFC terms he was a blown up middleweight going in and bullying very dangerous light heavies, not only bullying, destroying. He stood in there with a green Crocop and was able to bang with him in their first fight. He stood with Crocop, at the time one of the most dangerous kickboxers on the planet.

Nothing at all to sneeze at.. His style has never been very refined, his punches have always been a bit loopy, his defense has always been a bit quirky.. Wand was just a natural fighter with incredible instinct to finish.

I think Shogun is the more refined, thinking fighter of Chute Box. That Wand has had the success he has had is a lot on his own accord. I think people who appreciate Wand recognize this, and respect this about him.

If Leben had gone in and won a war against Wand, then I would think the world of him. The thing is he wanted a Wand who's chin was suspect, he said it himself.

He says himself that he goes on autopilot after he gets tagged, which means he is never going to be able to be that next level striker. He needs to understand that thinking under pressure and setting his opponent up is going to take him to the next level. Not, "autopilot."
