White says Brock deserves to be in the Hall of Fame?!?!

    Dana White hints at possible MMA return for ex-champ Brock Lesnar

    LAS VEGAS – While he wasn't technically involved in the historic all-heavyweight card at UFC 146 Saturday night in Las Vegas, Brock Lesnar requested a cage-side seat to see what all the hype was about.

    "He was here," UFC president Dana White said. "I think that says it all."

    Well, not really.

    Does the former UFC heavyweight champ and recently revamped WWE wrestler want back in the organization that he retired from this past December after losing to Alistair Overeem via first-round TKO?

    "He texted me and said, 'I want to come to the fight, but keep it quiet because I don't want to tell anybody,'" White said. "He said, 'What are you doing tonight? ... I want to talk face to face.'

    "You never know with him. He might want to come back. He might just want to hang out."

    The 34-year-old Lesnar — who won the heavyweight title over Randy Couture back at UFC 91 after just two fights in the UFC — had been battling a second round with diverticulitis (the disease cost him 12 inches of his colon in 2011) before retiring from the sport for good in December.

    Perhaps Lesnar just had interest in Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir's championship tilt since he had history with both fighters. The one-time Minnesota Viking and former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion split a pair of fights with Mir and was scheduled to fight Dos Santos after their season as coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter 13."

    But there's always the chance that Lesnar (5-3 MMA record, 4-3 UFC) wants back in the octagon.

    "I still think Brock Lesnar is one of the top guys in the heavyweight division," White said. "Is he in the top five? I don't know. We'll see."

    The UFC boss has heaped tons of praise on the pay-per-view draw and went as far to say Lesnar deserves a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame despite his short career in the cage.

    In April Lesnar returned to the wrestling organization that made him famous and challenged new WWE king John Cena. A recent storyline in which he quit the WWE made Lesnar's return to MMA all the more feasible.

    White said MMA fans were smart enough to decipher the two worlds.

    "I think people get it now with Brock," White said. "Brock is a huge WWE star and huge UFC star. He's accomplished at both. ... He went back to the WWE. There's no secret. I think people get it. There's nothing fake going on here. It's real. They get it."


    First of why return? The dude just retired? What exactly is he going to offer the heavy division that he couldn't in his last stint?
    Secondly HOF? WTF is Dana smoking?

    I remember a video of white proclaiming that if lesnar beats cain valasquez he would then become the greatest heavyweight ever. we know that didnt happen but if dana thinks he was that close to overtaking fedor than he must see Lesnar as top atg 3 material?

    Lesnar has absolutely no place in todays MMA division. He'd be creamed by pretty much anyone on that main card tonight. I'd give him a shot against Bigfoot and Herman, that's it.

    And Mir, obviously.

    Brock clearly likes the idea of being a 'fighter'. But that changes as soon as his punched in the face. Proverbially he has a bullys mentality. Despite Big Foots loss id give him zero chance of beating him. Unless he's going to face Mir for the rest of his life he has no place in the UFC. Much less for the HOF.

    Well the 'why return' question is easy - Lesnar can make a lot of money for the UFC and himself by fighting. Maybe he's feeling better physically, is getting tired of WWE or thinks that doing something with the UFC will help boost his next pro-wrestling match. And Mir or Big Foot would seem the obvious matches - both of which a half-fit Lesnar would have a chance in.

    On the Hall of Fame...meh. I don't really understand why anybody takes seriously a Hall of Fame controlled by a promoter, a promoter who seems half-hearted about the whole project in any case. So if Dana wants to put him in...whatever, its his Hall of Fame he can do with it what he wants. Would be nice if the sport had a proper Hall of Fame but when the writers haven't got organised to put themselves in an association that hardly seems likely.

    Also given there's no quote and the way the topic is framed in the article I'm sure what happened is that Dana was asked "hey Randy says Brock should be in the Hall of Fame, what do you think?". In that spot what can he do except say 'yeah sure...blah blah'? Its the sensible thing to do as he naturally wouldn't want to offend or talk down somebody who he wants to do business with again.

    If he's healthy there is still some good fights for him like against big country or guys outside the top 5. I think the guy is a competitor and would rather be in a real fight rather then "fake" fighting.

    The UFC's HOF is a joke

    An independent IHOF of MMA is whats required , when that happens , the HOF becomes relevant , until then , its a pointless exercise

    Brock is the perfect example of the difference between an athlete and a fighter. He's a hell of a athlete. But true fighters like getting hit. Also he has no business in the hof. Dana needs to put the pipe down.

    In terms of the UFC HOF, why the hell would Brock NOT be in there?

    It's the Hall of FAME. Not the Hall of Who are the Best Fighters.

    How many guys in UFC have:

    * Been more famous than Brock?

    * Sold more PPV orders for a fight?

    * Generated as many column inches in the mainstream media for their fights?

    * Generated as much casual sport fan interest in watching a UFC title fight?

    * Fought top-quality championship-level opposition EVERY fight, and main-evented EVERY fight in their UFC careers?



    Brock is a HUGE figure in UFC company history. He had massive importance to the sport when he was signed and won the title, and 50 years from now he will be remembered as a major figure in the sport's development. He is a UFC legend and he deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. What you make of his abilities as a fighter is irrelevant. He deserves a spot in the UFC Hall of FAME, because the UFC probably hasn't had another fighter as FAMOUS as Brock. :bart

    What a ******ed comparison. :-(

    Tell me how the former UFC heavyweight champion who happens to be the most famous fighter ever to compete in the Octagon, should not be in the Hall of FAME.

    Only seven UFC cards have sold more than a million PPVs. Lesnar headlined FOUR of them. He headlined the top two highest-selling cards in company history, and three of the top five, and four of the top six. He was the draw in ALL those fights. He was the man the public wanted to see. He was more FAMOUS than any other champion, and the public were more INTERESTED to see him fight than to see any other champion fight.

    So tell me why the most famous and high-profile mixed martial artist ever to compete in the sport, a man who DOMINATES the PPV records, should be kept out of the UFC HOF. :huh
