I'm not impressed by Whitfield at all. Take a look at Vargas's record. Most of his opponents have losing records and less than 10 fights. Plus, this is his first fight in the US in Whitfield's hometown. And yet, this is a very close fight. Doesn't bode well for Whitfield's career. There has been a lot of talk about him being a major player in this division. I don't see it.

Hard to believe any guy who has starved himself down to 112 from 130 can be a force for long. This guy's training camps must be nightmarish.

He's lucky Vargas is slowing down some, or this fight would have gotten very, very interesting.

Just looked up both of their career opponents. Neither guy has really fought anyone. Whitfield will go nowhere. Very little offense and he's taken some clean shots. He's lucky he appears to be in better shape than Vargas. Very disappointing. I was expecting bigger things after reading about this guy over the past year.

Agreed, Whitfield looks like he's one good shot from going down. His legs dont look sturdy to me. I dont think Vargas is the man to take down Whitfield but when he does move up in class, I think he's in trouble.

I also love how they keep saying Vargas has won 23 straight. He fought 17 guys with less than 10 wins and 8 guys with zero wins. Whitfield would be killing this guy if he was worth anything.

That is horrible comp, but you could tell immediately tonight that Vargas has some ability. He throws wide punches, but his defense and timing are respectable. A lot of guys facing this kind of height disparity don't do well at all.

I agree. He's not as bad as I expected looking at his comp. Plus, this is his first fight in the US in Whitfield's hometown. This is a close fight. But, considering the fight is in Augusta, I would expect wide scores for Whitfield.

Vargas is just working a lot harder than Whitfield. The crowd is going crazy for Whitfield, but he hasn't landed much of anything.
