Extremely difficult to imagine how this fight goes to be honest. Styles just cancel each other out and Whitaker wins a split decision
Agreed. This would be a very tough fight to score as well. It would be a counterpunching showcase because neither don't make a lot of mistakes. I could see Whitaker pulling a Chris Eubank, stopping to admire his punches only to get smacked by Mayweather's counters. Whitaker still wins an extremely close UD or split decision.
Superior jab+superior workrate+southpaw style equals a comfortable decision win for Whitaker, although it wouldn't be a blow-out or schooling, at least not down the stretch. I do figure Whitaker would more or less sweep the early rounds, though. Overall, something like 8-4 or 8-3-1 sounds right.
Whitaker probably wins I guess... I'm not sure though (since I would probably fall to sleep after like round 2 and miss the whole fight).
I can't honestly see what Mayweathers got that can surpass/overcome the skills of the real deal master slickster who is IMO superior in every department in a H2H.
:good I´d also throw in that Whitaker is harder to figure out for Floyd than the other way round. Whitaker has more dimensions to his game than Mayweather usually shows.
Mayweather has better footwork and balance and more punch power IMO as well. Although, Whitaker is widely considered the superior defensive maestro, Mayweather could arguably be a more faceted defensive technician as he incorporates ALL facets of technical defensive manoueveres into his ring craft. He shows defence to both body and head, by way of reflex, blocking, parrying, slipping, pulling etc, but also shows the footwork, angling, distance negotiation and other skills that some defensive masters sometimes neglect to incorporate to the degree that Floyd does. Sweet Pete often relied on reflexive head movement and that jerky squatting, footwork defence that he used to avoid punches ... whilst, he, too, showed all the fundamentals, I feel that Floyd could be argued to have shown them more consistently, perhaps. To me, Floyd is slightly more talented ... in terms of what they achieved, Pernell is a rung above Floyd, for my money. Floyd has Castillo and Pernell has Chavez.
Whitaker would outbox Mayweather and win a close decision. Floyd never fought the caliber of guys Whitaker did. Whitaker proved more.
